You forgot the, "Most just install mods"
Only those who actually care would bother to install mods.

The majority of people aren't going to buy a game that needss mods to be fun. The ones who mod are the ones who enjoy the game enough to want to keep it interesting.

And not all who mod do it to make the game harder or easier. All my mods just add features the devs either should have added or will likely add at some point. Like a pause for solo play, a quick connect list of saved servers and using the blast furnace to smelt ALL the metals. before H&H I had some mods to hide map pins and share map data with other players.

Modders are the minority of players. Just look at the number of total downloads on the popular mods for Valheim, 3,000-5,000 average in most cases, out of aprox 10,000,000 copies sold. Even just going by the number of daily players modders likely make up only a few percent at best.

Actually dying while sailing on deep water should be the most common cause of permanently lost items, unless they made grave markers float...

This game severely needs a new and more fair death mechanic. There are lots of scenarios where you cannot recover items after death. Making the player lose hours of progress doesn't make the game more "hard" or "difficult" but is just unfair and annoying.

That's why they included dev commands.
Why anyone would allow themselves to get so frustrated with a game is beyond me. People seem to forget gaming is for entertainment. If you are not entertained, change it so you are enjoying yourself.

remeber how lots of people complained about Star Wars: The Phantom Menace? They were upset because something they loved had been royally F'ed up. Thats i kind of whats happening with Valheim. The people who are complaining really loved the game the way it was and all the changes have detracted from the fun they had playing it and they are making their voices heard.

Most people want a game that is engaging enough to distract them from their life and let them relax without making them put too much effort into it. Just somthing to do while they chill out from work or recover from the family reunion. If they had wanted something that required micro managing their food and having to worry about stamina they would have been playing a different game right from the start.

Thats why they get frustrated. They are trying to play a game they really enjoyed playing that has suddenly changed the rules on them and is forcing them to deal with extra concerns that weren't there before. Some won''t care, some will love the new mechanics, some will eventually get used to it, and others will just stop playing when they get tied of dealing with the changes.

The thing to keep in mind is a good 90% of the people who play Valheim are not posting in these forums at all. They don't care enough about the game either way to bother. So most of that 10% who do care are going to be on oposite sides of the update.

Dev commands aside, this is literally the only way to lose items permanently due to death. Maybe the gravestone should spawn on the nearest shoreline?

Still seems like a very, very obvious risk of sailing near the edge of a flat world though.

I think they extended the edge of the world with the H&H update. I have several bases with bridges going out as far as I could get them, and they seem farther from the edge now.

No way to get them back unless you use devcommands to respawn your items.

Nope, if you come to close to the end you are soaked over the edge.

Your stuff is gone

Your items are lost. You cannot recover your items & need to make new ones or well, there is devcommands.

Follow these steps

open the dev cosole using F5 (if consol doesn't open look up how to enable it)

type the following
devcommands
god
fly
close the consol

you can now fly to and off the side of the world without dying.

once clear of the water at the edge of the world use crtl key to go down until you reach
the bottom. Note there is a strong constant force pushing you away from the edge so be ready to compensate for it.

find your grave marker and can recover your items

return to your base and use hte dev consone again to turn off your fly and god status. The god status will also clear if you just log out

enjoy the rest of your game :)
