ESRB Rating
This game looks awesome but what is the ESRB rating? Is it appropriate for kids (playing coop with family): language, "kid friendly" content, etc...

That's great to hear, thank you for all the responses. We will definitely give it a try.

If you're looking for a family friendly game to play with the family, may I suggest Rising Storm Vietnam 2. Its a unique game that can teach your kids about teamwork and the dangers of communism.

No language issues. It's pretty much hints and lore. Some strange dreams but nothing distasteful that I have noticed.
In terms of "gore" you get some blood splatter on the ground along with the drops of meat and hide. Again very light in terms of nasty factor... pig squeal might be the most shocking part of killing a boar. One food item made form intestines dropped from dead people. Not a big deal made of it, just another drop to use.
That is about it honestly... not sure if fighting scary looking monsters might be too much for your kids but I doubt you would be looking into it if you were afraid of that ha ha.
Most things get killed then "poof" in a cloud to drop drops etc... nothing really graphic there either.
On the gore / violence I would rate it pretty low end. I'd let the grandchildren play it.

I would say Valheim is very kid friendly but perhaps not parent friendly.

I've played the game all the way through and I don't think there is anything alarming for kids. But, it does make me think, I saw a person complaining about using stomach lining to make sausages. It's not graphic. I would just watch some gameplay on youtube to see what you think. You do have to kill a lot of things because you do get attacked. You will have to kill deer and boars for food, stuff like that.

Since Valheim currently is in Early Access, and content is subject to change, there is no official PEGI, FSK/USK or ESRB rating yet. However, if the content doesn't change too much, Valheim will most likely be rated ESRB Teen and USK/FSK/PEGI 16. Probably not "kid friendly" nor USK/FSK/PEGI 12 since Valheim contains violence, blood, etc.

Very good point Munin, I had just gotten out of bed and didn't consider those points. Been awhile since I was a kiddo, it's easy to forget how desensitized we can get.

Esrb rating are usless (like EA selling lootboxes to young kids in fifa games).
A 5 year old kid can play this game no problem. I played original postal from 1997 and i turned out fine.
Well of cose you will need a parent next to them to teach them how to play it. (they could get nightmares tho)
Up to you realy.

Haha yeah, I mean opinions differ obviously, but it is how it is. You can ofc still let your 12 year old play Valheim if you think it's okay.

Lol, my 7 and 9 years old kids played this game. They are Minecraft fans, I did not see difference between this and Minecraft other than this looked like more refined version.

My 3 year old son loves this game. He can't play it by himself yet, however he's sitting on my lap whilst we play it. This is not a scary game....at all.

Really little kids might have issues with swamp biome stuff but that's about all I can think of. I know of a lot of folks who play this with their kids.. It's great for family adventures. :)
