Losing skill points upon death is counter productive.

Love the game keep up the good work. IMHO with a game like this that is focused on exploration losing skill points upon death is counter productive. Death is part of the game you know its going to happen. As it is you build up skill points slow enough. I got very frustrated in finally completing a bronze set of equipment and boat to go find the swamp. While exploring I died to a Death Mosquito, no problem part of the game. Now I have lost all my skill points to death run after death run to get my equipment back.

After you die once you have an invisible timer where more deaths won't lower skills untill the timer runs out. It will say the "gods have been forgiving or something along those lines. Also i think losing skill points is a nice touch in an already simplified game. No dying from hunger or thirst, repairs are free ect

How would you propose the penalty for death be handled?

With this type of game set up the death penalty like Terraria and allow the player to chose it up by selecting how they want to play Softcore, Mediumcore, or Hardcore. You already have the pleasure of the death run. In this particular instance i was far away with no extra boat or armor set.

I personally will not use the God/Cheat console codes but you have them at your disposal. So why not allow us to set how we want to have the death penalty in the game. :dwarfbeer:

The death penalty is fine. I've lost hundreds of points in skills and I love it that there's a solid punishment system for dying.

I think that's a fair trade for not dying of hunger/losing all items entirely.

Yeah, this game could use some game rules customization options.

Like what do you lose on death. Items dropped, destroyed, keep. Skill loss, yes or no. Delete character, yes or no.

Too many snowflakes want and easy game without any challenge Solution: Don't die.

Died, learned my lesson, and learned to play smarter.

So you jump right to SnowFlake, you don't even know me. I am a 55 year old male very busy at work M-F and have limited time to play games. I just find it counter productive to loose skill points in a game like this. As stated I know how to use the god/cheat commands but will not use them.

So what is the big deal to allow a setting not to loose skill points in a single player game that at any point i can set them to max value through console commands. This game is made for you to die from time to time. IMHO if you never die in a game like this you are not taking any chances. Even more so during the starting/building phase of the game when you have very little resources.

Sorry i triggered your SJW tenancies :tgrin: See i can call you random names for no reason too.

So you're saying everyone else should be forced to play an easier game because you can't manage your irl time? How about you don't play the game.. everyone else does.

Or you get with the program? A skill setting wouldn't fix the core issue.. which is you. Not the game.

I'm 5 yrs younger than you and you sound like my son.

Problem in Chair.. Not in Computer.

yes....well dieing in any survival game is usually counter productive. Perhaps survival games are jut not for you. The game is already very easy and does not need any more hand holding. Why in the world would you toss your respawned toon repeatedly into death trying to get your gear? it sounds to me that your choices were counter productive

Easy fix. Don't die.

There has to be a risk/reward,
otherwise why play?

Death is counter productive. Losing skill points is productive as it gives you an incentive not to die.

Besides skill points barely matter compared to gear. Getting high skills is just a way of keeping score. If you want 100 in skills don't die. If you want to complete the game quickly rush around and gather materials with the frequent death tossed in.

If you want to give feedback to devs, you could just join their discord and talk about it.
For me it seems like that you're turning this up to be another troll thread
