Is there a Campaign to do, what happens when you die?
Two questions. So is there any campaign, or is it more like an MMO where there are single quests and maybe a few quest lines to do? Is there lore in the game, some kind of backstory?
2nd question. What happens when you die? Im prefectly fine with having to go to your corpse and get your equipment. In fact I like that, dying should be bad! Do you lose experience? Im guessing we gain experience thats used to increase your character's skills? It isnt perma-death ever is it? My favorite game of all time was the original Everquest. I started that when it first came out and played for about 3 years straight. i was hooked on that. It could be very brutal when you died. Youd have to get to your body and get your things and youd lose quite a bit of experience. In higher "hell levels" it might take you nearly a week of hard game play to gain back just what you lost.

Oh? Two questions.
So is there any campaignYes and no. Your soul has been consigned to this 10th world by Odin and given the task of defeating the elder bosses who were imprisoned there. So, not exactly a sequential campaign but rather a series of tasks.
or is it more like an MMO where there are single quests and maybe a few quest lines to do?No, it is not a story driven RPG and it is not an MMO. You may play solo or co-op with friends and you may play at your own pace in a relatively open world. There will be an end or a conclusion to the game, but that is a long way from being implemented.
Is there lore in the game, some kind of backstory?Yes, see above ;)

You respawn, since you are already dead.
Yes, you lose a little XP and yes you gain XP for each skill you use.
It isnt perma-death ever is it?No.

Its more like a structured sandbox. Think of Terraria or something. There is an "intended" progression path through the game, but how you tackle the challenge is up to you. There are no quests (except the main one where you are Odin's champion basically going after his enemies). There's barely any NPCs. The world is procedural and there are no artificial barriers blocking your path. Neither enemies or the loot are level scaled; you can get yourself in as big of a trouble as you want. There is some lore and backstory, but its not a narrative driven game by any stretch.
When you die, you leave a grave with your belongings. You also lose 5% of your skillpoints in every category. The penalty for dying is not harsh, just something to keep you from mindlessly throwing yourself at an impossible situation.
Oh, I guess its worth saying that building is a big part of this game. If you enjoy building your own fortress or viking settlement in the middle of the wilderness you probably are going to like this game.

Thanks guys. Good information. It sounds like a promising game and something I might like. It also sounds like there is an overall aim of defeating those bosses.
Having no NPCs kinda sucks. If you build a little village, does it just sit there empty then? Nobody lives in it?

Basically yes, except the mobs will be attacking it every now and then. If you have IRL friends you can hang out there too. And your tame farm animals of course. Having no NPCs kinda sucks. If you build a little village, does it just sit there empty then? Nobody lives in it?

Farm animals sounds cool. Too bad you cant find NPCs to invite to live in your settlement. That would be a cool mechanic. Have them live there and defend it while you are away.Basically yes, except the mobs will be attacking it every now and then. If you have IRL friends you can hang out there too. The game then only plays while you are logged on and playing? The game State of Decay could be brutal because it progressed while you werent even playing. So if you took a day from gaming, or just came back after a night's sleep, you could log in and find some of your characters dead and camp torn up.
Can your place be torn up by the mobs while you werent logged on?

The 10th world is a land of the dead and natural spirits, inhabited by the damned souls who manifest as various types of monsters and beasties and the imprisoned elders. Thanks guys. Good information. It sounds like a promising game and something I might like. It also sounds like there is an overall aim of defeating those bosses.

The only NPC would be the Dwarven Trader who you have to locate somewhere in the world.
If you wish to build a little village to while away the time while you remain in this afterlife then knock yourself out.
However, you are the only Viking soul who has been sent there by Odin and you will be the only resident... unless you have decided to play with friends.
As it happens, you will very likely build a number of bases from which to explore and progress through the world, or at least you'd be wise to ;)
This is not a settlement building game.
The game also actively pokes you into being more active by sending raids against you if you dally too long in one place so no villages for me, just a place to rest and arm up before moving on ;)
I haven't played since April 2021, but I know that everything will be just as I left it when I eventually return to play.... which will be when the next biome, Mistlands is released (later this year). The game then only plays while you are logged on and playing?

The game does not have "official" servers. You have basically three options: you can play a single player game, or you can host a session for your friends, or you can setup a dedicated server if you have a spare computer that's always on. In the first two cases nothing will obviously happen while you're not playing. If you are running a dedicated server then things can happen while you're not there but I think it requires that at least someone is on the server.

Ok, thanks. Makes sense. I will probably want to play single a lot but then at certain time invite someone I know to come along and help out. Perhaps help them too on their server.
