I'm assuming you can't so we don't accidently remove it and lose all our stuff, which is good.

But on the other hand, I get super demoralized whenever I see it. It's hard enough just knowing that I died, but the permanent marker makes the tryhard in me go ballistic.

My friends and I were just about to fight Yagluth on our last server and I died at an unfortunate Fuling Spear-Trower Seminar just a couple days before they fought him. I started over on a new character after a couple hours of having to stare at it on my map. FORCED myself to go through every stage as solo as possible. Big time waster.

I know that the solution here is to just not die, but it's hard to punish that behavior when it's wasting other people's time besides my own.
