I still play on my original seed. i exposed about four Mistlands biomes before the update so they remain in their originally cobwebby state. But I've explored multiple updated Mistlands and there are whole chunks of maps where more Mistlands await. I have also exposed a couple of Ashlands and Far North biomes so those will never update, But there is still a ton of them left to discover. My strategy is to not to discover too many of the biomes that haven't been updated yet. I have lots of landmasses left with mountains that I'm sure have crystal caves in them, plains with tar pits, etc. I steer clear of the north and south poles.

If there is enough unexplored space left, chances are good that you get some Mistlands Biome there in an old save. They changed the way the terrain generates though and from what I have read so far, it might happen that the terrain is not generated like it should be...with varying results.

To reiterate what @Kryten wrote they did change the terrain generation mechanic with the Mistlands update to create larger Mist land masses. An older save will have the Mistlands, but they will most likely be broken and smallish islands.

There is a mod called Upgrade World, you can reset all the mistlands and upgrade your world to the new mistlands biome distribution. If you go this route make sure you read the instructions and make backups as you go. I used this on a world that was created days after the game initially released and it worked well.

So also if i didnt discover half of the map on my old save, the Mistlands biome will be very small?

I loaded my old saves and all the worlds were reset/changed. They were over a year old though

If you want to know for sure you can upload your current map files into the Valheim World Generator and check the boxes for the new Mistlands points of interest and it will show you if you have any on your map.

Click the blue upload box there and follow the instructions to upload your world files from your Valheim/Worlds folder.

I can confirm they are available on old saves.

I started the day Valheim was released. I made it to the plains biome before shelfing the game.

Started playing again recently and with a bit of sailing I found the mistlands.

If you haven't discovered the mistlands prior the release of it, you can.

If you have discovered it, you still can, but most likely won't find any related stuff over there.

It may however be a good idea to check your seed with the Valheim map generator, as worlds have changed a bit with the release of Mistlands.
