Muck is sneaky and tends to leave a LOT of tiny little bits that you can hit with some wiggling around. Each one has a shot at iron, no matter how tiny. Make sure you clear these if you did not.

I've gone into Sunken Crypts my partners have previously mined and come out with an extra 10-20 iron. Some of those little remnants of Muddy Scrap Piles are very hard to see, and very easy to miss, one definitely has to meticulously inspect the ground, especially where the walls meet the ground in the corridors that were previously filled with scrap piles. The Dverger Circlet is a very handy item to wear when exploring crypts & burial mounds, it sure beats carrying a torch.

Wearing the Wishbone in the Swamp (rewarded after killing Bonemass) will detect Muddy Scrap Piles, which can be found outside of crypts on the ground. Most of the ground based sources of Muddy Scrap Piles I have found have been along the outside edges of swamps, much of it where the swamp borders another biome, especially The Black Forest. IMO that source of scrap iron is not worth the effort as it rarely yields more than 1 scrap iron.

However, everything works, we looted the first crypts and found 43 iron just enough for armor!

Good to hear it all worked out. You will find crypts with upto 4 or 5 times that amount of iron. In my experience, the smaller the swamp biome the more rewarding the few Sunken Crypts can be! I am working a small swamp biome attached to the Plains where Yagluth's altar is. It has only 3 Sunken Crypts and it has 3 Abomination spawn points. I have probably close to 200 tame lox on the island, some having moved into the swamps. Every couple of game days they help me get 15 Root. I already have enough to make Root Armour for all 3 of us.

Crypts are incredibly random. I ran two of them yesterday.... first one yielded 22 iron (worst crypt ever), and the next had nearly 250.

A few days ago i stumbled into a crypt with two short hallways on the left and right sides - each of which had only one of those long rooms with nothing in it - result: 0 Iron ;)

Chests make all the difference from my experience. The muck picking drops seem fairly consistent on average.

Leather scraps do drop from muddy scrap piles, although scrap iron should be more common. So perhaps a bit of bad luck, I dunno. Are you only getting leather scraps from the piles?

I don't know, I fell out of 4 pieces of skin in a row and I stopped playing because I thought it was a bug.

Probably just bad luck, then. The Wiki says, scrap iron has a 16% drop rate, leather scraps 4%. So far, getting 4 leather in a row isn't that improbably. Anyway, good luck on your iron mining, man. Don't forget to check the chests in the crypts, they often have tons of it.

ok thanks mate, maybe I'm really unlucky or it's enough to reset the game, because earlier I also mined copper and it didn't fall out, but my brother does, I will check it later and let me know.
