Compare to Other Survival Games (Pros and Cons)
Ark is unique & well known for its dinosaurs. It has a vast map and tons of dinos. Lots of crafting mechanics as well. So players don't get bored fast. Unfortunately, the PVP servers will always eat newcomers alive. Veteran players are centuries more advance, hence no hope for newcomers to thrive and will only get farmed by the oldest players in that server.
Sons of the Forest is unique & well known for its cannibals and biohazzard-like monsters. It focus on PVE rather than PVP. But seems like the AI needs more fixing.
No Man's Sky is unique & well know for its galactic exploration and survival. You can encounter thousands of new species and minerals everywhere you go. And also tons of places of interests, like ancient ruins, mystical objects, robots, etc.
So how is Valheim compare to those survival games? What are the pros and cons of Valheim compared to them?

I play it because I'm in love with the skill cap in building and interior decorating...
Your given basic pieces and with inspiration, learning and imagination...the possibilities are endless. I have fallen in love with this game...

I think these comparisons are mostly false equivalencies and there's more than adequate threads, videos, and other resources that you can do better due diligence in learning about whether the game is for you or not.

In Valheim you play a 90 years old retired viking with asthma and all its consequences. I would say it´s a pretty unique setting. So how is Valheim compare to those survival games? What are the pros and cons of Valheim compared to them?
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this. While the positives about Valheim are actually extremely good, it has a ♥♥♥♥ ton of negative sides that just kills the game tbh.

I would love to see a link to a definition of "survival game" that doesn't encompass Valheim and/or a list of survival games that doesn't include Valheim, or at least Minecraft, which is clearly has a similar game play loop.

Who would have the authority to establish this definition/list?
Is Far Cry a survival game? What about The Witcher? You craft stuff, level up your skills and weapons, walk around an open world and you try not to die. I never see them qualified as "survival games" though.
Some definitions include the concepts of "open world" and "crafting" and yet "Oregon Trail" is often referred to as one of the 1st survival games.
I gave my definition, everybody is free to think what they want.

Wow, I'm very surprised at your opinion. When I open the store page, the first tag they use is "Open World Survival Craft". The second tag is "Survival". Valheim doesn't compare, it's not a survival game.
So perhaps the developers did not understand those tags?
I mean by default, if a player does not survive, then it's game over. But we can't use the term "survival" with general meaning, right?

Valheim generates maps based on seed name to try keeping exploration fresh and helps the map from being too repetitive but it needs more variation. Valheim also has slightly more advanced melee combat than the other games you mentioned. You can block, perfect block, roll and use two kinds of attacks on most weapons. It's also a very pve focused game for smaller coop groups and not really for huge servers of people. Valheim also doesn't just cause you to drop loot on death, you also lose stats which can get a little punishing at higher levels or in some cases I've seen people who repeatedly die just not advance in skills and struggle. The dungeons I've encountered so far are boring so I don't explore to find points of interest as much as to find resources or bosses.
Ark has mostly static maps and less advanced melee combat but the quality and detail of Ark's maps are really nice and it's better for huge groups on a single server or for heavy pvp focus.
Sons of the forest has very interesting crafting and AI, is much more immersive in general, and has better looking enemies. However, the map is static, there's no dodge button for combat, and death is not really punishing.
I enjoyed the exploration of no man's sky but outside of hardcore mode I found it lacking punishment for death and thought it had some extremely boring enemies and even more lackluster creatures. The combat has apparently received a huge update since I played, however.

...the first tag they use...
Okay, let me stop you right there.
Those are USER tags. They're added by players, not any of the devs. Thus why it says:
Popular user-defined tags for this product:

1. I thought tags were defined by users, but even so, they (devs or users) can use whatever tags they want it doesn't just "make it so".
2. If all it takes for a game to be "survival" is to have a concept of game over if the player dies then 99% of games since Tetris are survival games.
"Survival game" is just in fashion now so a lot of games market themselves as survival games. IMO a survival game is a game where you are *constantly* getting closer to death. If I start the game, walk away and come back after 1 hour or so, I should be dead. This is not the case in Valheim. Hunger doesn't kill you, lack of rest doesn't kill you, etc.
This is an exploration/building/crafting game.
