i thought log poles didn't get damaged from water?

i'm trying to make a dock for my longship and i just noticed that the logs i used to build my platform are taking damage...

is there anything in this game that the water won't screw with?

yes theres a roof over everything.

Water logged wood will decay down to 50%. It's largely nothing to worry about.

Rain storms do not rain directly down and the wind will reach wood at an angle.

Most constructions made of wood will, as you have probably observed, get water damage by rains and storms unless covered by roofs, stones, etc., or if you use darkwood as the tar will protect against said weathering effect.

However, while any wooden part that is permanently in touch with the water in the sea will start getting damaged after a time, the rounded logs will only get damaged up to a 50%.

One of the exceptions for this are, funnily enough, the stake walls, as GunsForBucks put above.

Go with a covered dock. Depending on how far along you are, it's good to eventually make one with a stone base. I made one like this. Built it with stone, then roofed it with log frame and standard roof panels. Works really well that way with no weathering issues.

Thats not rain damage , its sea damage because storms in the shore , yeah waves will damage your things if are very close to the shore
You may use darkwood that is inmune to that

Yes the core log poles do weather.
One trick is to put those stake walls with the points into them.. even if they are on top, as long as the wall touches it.

Or have a covered dock. Max weathering is 50% anyway.
