Worth coming back?
Haven't played since end of last year. Is mistlands worth it? Is there more content now? I do love the game, not hating.

No. The game still crashes without any obvious reason. I've tried everything suggested in other topics. Game is unplayable.
I too experience the crashes/freezes every 10mins... EVERY 10mins. This was a reported problem 2yrs ago.

Depends what you mean by "come back." Are you implying coming back to your current play through with your current character? In that case I would say, no it's not worth coming back.
Mistlands is not a giant expansion in and of itself and will only be shortened further by a well geared and leveled character. The biomes only real content is hunting for mines while trying to avoid getting jumped. It's challenging until you get your bearings on what types of landmarks to look for and how to spot them.
However, if you're someone who is open to doing a fresh play through on a new character exploring a new world, then I think it's worth another go. I would go in with the intent to heavily specialize your character in one of the new weapon types or even an existing weapon type that you've never leveled heavily before. It gave me a new challenge and clear goal.
I set out with the intent that I would be a mage with a dark marble wizard tower that I built in the mistlands as my main base. This meant all other bases would just be temporary until I got to the new biome. it presented hurdles for me as i handicapped myself by only being able to take over an existing structure and turn it into a forward base as I moved into each biome. I had to carefully plan what I was going to craft and how many resources I would need to make the items it would take to safely navigate to the mistlands and roam the terrain.
It was a long journey, many deaths and a lot of hair pulling once I arrived at the mistlands. After about 10 hours I had hit enough mines to make my first workbench and 20 hours later I was well into becoming a powerful viking wizard. I found a perfect cove that became the grounds for my tower and another 30 hours later I had completed one of the coolest builds i've ever done. 180 hours into a new play through and I had become an unstoppable queen killing, fireball slinging, Gjall yeeting, magecap eating monster.
Why did I take the long way to answer your question? Because I wanted to explain where the heck my 180 hours went. If you're someone who likes to build narrative around your experiences then it's ALWAYS worth coming back to this game. If you enjoy all of the games aspects, as I do, you can easily lose track of time and no life binge Valheim. Hopefully there's another adventure in store for you soon viking!

What ever rocks your boat.
I don't know how much there is new content since I last played "through" the game but what keeps me coming back is the journey and the suspense of progression in a new world with new character. Sure, I know what to expect and how to handle the situations but couple of boars right at the start might kill you and those uncertainties keep me coming back.

It’s the same game. If you’re starting fresh, you have a loooong while before you see the majority of new content.
Also if you were using mods, it’ll potentially be a few weeks before they get updated. Some already have been, but a few that I need in order to better enjoy the game have yet to be updated.

Spoiler free response: Maybe.
I love the game (now over 1500 hours). Some points to consider:
-You'll need to start over with a new world. No problem for me, but that has some upset. If you try to go to the Mistlands on an old map you will likely end up in a messed up biome. I believe this is where some of the negative feedback is coming from... the "issues" with the biome are magnified because it's not generated properly on the old map.
-It's hard. Remember that jump in difficulty going into the plains? Yup. More so. I'm by no means an elite player and I find it doable... just a tad too hard to really enjoy.
-You may die ... a lot. Some of the "too hard" comments come from the fact that people who rarely die are dropping like flies (even hard-core players) and getting upset at the skill loss penalty (or gear getting lost in a spot they can't retrieve it). New enemies have a knock-back that's almost absurd.
-It's different. Someone said something like "the swamp and the mountains had a baby." I think it's interesting (albeit hard) and actually like it better than the Plains.
-Player progression is heavily gated in the Mistlands. It's going to be quite some work to unlock the new weapons and armor. Could be an issue if jumping through hoops or grinding isn't your thing.
Overall I like it ... I would enjoy it more if it was tweaked a bit, but certainly enough to keep playing.
If you're in Valheim for a more casual building and exploration experience and are risk-adverse, you may want to pass on the Mistlands. If you left Valheim because you'd mastered every mob and just didn't think it was challenging any more ... I say "gear up"!

I suppose I should have mentioned mods as a "point to consider" too. I don't use them so not an issue for me but if you have come to rely on mods you'll have to wait for them to be updated. Valhiem+ Plus has already been updated so that's a good sign.
Can't speak to the crashing. Probably a year or so ago there was a brief period when the game would crash when I was quitting. Within a few weeks it stopped and never figured out if it was Valheim or Windows or whatever.
Other than that, I've never had the game crash. Part of the reason that I don't use mods. My computer is an older i5, GTX970, 8GB Ram (I hear you, stop laughing at me), and my video drivers are outdated (ok, laugh at me).
I have some of the graphics setting turned down for better performance and since I play at 1080p I don't think it hurts the look all that much.
Maybe the crashes are due to mods or maybe it has something to do with bigger/better/newer gear actually built in the last decade.

I've kinda been waiting for it to leave alpha mode and be released in its final form before returning, and after HangarPilot's honest take, I think that is still what I'm going to do. This sounds too new after release to want to delve into immediately as some are having issues with crashes and difficulty spikes. Maybe after they do some patches and finally decide to trust it enough to take it out of Alpha then me and the boys will head back in. Especially after hearing we will have to rebuild our fortress to start Mistlands as it requires a new game.

It frankly depends on what type of player you are. Some players take their experience very literally, as in, if they max out weapons/armor, beat the boss, they shelf the game. If you're into playing with friends, role playing, base building, & exploration, then you will want to jump back in. This gaming community can easily mirror Minecraft or MUDs from the 90s due the open world setting & the ability of players to mod the game. It's very much a "living" game.
