Does progression speed matter?
Its day 115 in my solo play through and i have only killed the first boss so far. I haven't been rushing at all just exploring and building and doing what interests me.
Does it matter how many days pass? Am I making things harder on myself by not moving faster through the bosses?

I can say for sure that rushing trough content in valheim is only gonna ruin it. Take your time and enjoy the journey. Progression speed does not matter at all in single player. Multiplayer can be tricky with people who rush from boss to boss and only focus on getting better gear. Their game is over after plains.

Time does not affect anything... Bosses will still have the same difficulty regardless of how long it takes to reach them.

If you are playing single player, you can take as much time as you like. The progression depends on what you do, not how long it takes you to do it, and most of it is based around which bosses you have beaten so far. Usually the bosses grant some prize that allows you to progress to the next tier, like you beating the deer granted the antler needed to make the pick so you can enter the bronze age.
Multiplayer is a little different, that doesn't track individual progress so the pace is generally set by whoever is the most advanced at the time. If you are still struggling through bronze age while a friend on your server is fighting the (current) final boss, you may get raids of critters beyond what you are currently equipped to handle. Even on MP though, the bosses aren't harder if you are fighting them alone, though they do get adjusted a bit if you are fighting alongside others on the server.

Multiplayer bosses are halariously easy compared to single player. Just imagine everybody using a fully upgraded Frostner vs Bonemass because, why not it's multiplayer nobody is playing fair anymore.

Actually, it's more likely the other way around and you're making the game easier for yourself

Like most have said - take your time and play at the pace that you find enjoyable. I'm over 1200 game days and have not gone for the 2nd boss yet. I've not even gone sailing much yet although it seems to be approaching as The Elder appears to not have a land path that connects to my location.

I did notice that after about 100 days, skeletons would visit once in a while and tin deposits started spawning in front of my base.
Safe to say things could change over time in a very mild manner.

I am playing at similar pace. Not sure of exact day I killed 1st boss. But likely day 100-115ish. Its day 150 something for me now and have had 2nd base at edge of Black Forest. Just on Meadow side. That base has enough fires/ torches and whatnot that I had my 1st "The forest is moving" event there. About 10th overall maybe, but 1st at new base. That event is much more fun here because that base is much smaller and everything condensing nicely for my arrows.
Only thing I noticed as far as progression, When I first built my 2nd base at edge of BF, Hadn't seen a troll there. That was about turn 120-125. Now there is a troll just across border about every day. Likely everyday if I venture across. Another one just 200 scale meters east of me. Killed one just beyond that. So Trolls are lurking big time in BF now about turn 160 while just 10 days ago nothing. I don't know if the spawn rate for them ramps up at turn 150, or if it started a cycle once I entered BF the 1st time or what,
They do seem content to remain in BF. I lured one across to my base, but once it found no way across moat it went back to its roam area. Had too many trees up still to get shots as it went away.
So I can just ride it out here as I get more XP I guess. More stuff seams to be spawning. Seen a nest not far in the BF that I didn't notice before.
I don't venture far into BF. I can take Troll by itself, but lots of stuff joins in there that isn't in the meadow. Terrain is much rougher also and easy to find a cliff where you can get cornered. I want to lure a troll at a time and complete the Troll armor before I target nests.

You are on no ones schedule here, play how ya like, do what you like.
In fact, I think people who rush this game to the end boss missed a lot this game has to offer.

If you can rush the game to end boss that implies a lot, like game knowledge, experience, and overall badassery is all taking place here. If you can play the game slow and fast you might as well be considered pro.

The only thing i think is modified recently is spawning skeletal archers. I don't think the game will spawn them in the first 5 days.
I haven't noticed anything related to boss difficulty or anything too long term. Not sure though. Hard to tell with RNG but I am fairly confident about the archer thing.
