Bee Hives are wonky AF.

So can someone please explain how Bee Hives work in terms of space? I've had 6 hives up, all making honey for 60 days, and now all of a sudden, 3 of them stop producing honey. I separated them to where they were all happy, and made honey for another 30 days until 2 stopped working again. One of them is on a 5x5 tile wall with NO other hives anywhere on the wall. No matter where I place them on the wall, they're not happy. Meanwhile, on my previous server, I used a single oak tree as my hive locations, and were able to stack 9 of them happily on that tree for 600+ days, with only one instance of "not enough space", to which I moved the hive down an inch and it worked.

Are the hives just bugged or is there some underlying mechanic that I can't seem to grasp or figure out? Is anyone else having this issue? I don't want to have to run all over the place just to collect honey every 30 minutes.

check if there is a roof above unhappy bees. They don't like roofs

They need space around all sides, and stuff for the bees to feed on. I place mine around my planting garden on posts.. Works great. No probs so far.

probably this. don't put them under roofs. you can also use the 2m wood beam to separate them.

One of them had a roof 4 tiles above it, so that could have been the culprit for that one. The other one though, had nothing above it, or around it. Would love to see the actual parameters that they follow.

They don't mind being right next to each other. I think they don't like being near walls. Being on floors is ok. I've put mine on a small post with a small floor tile, four of them bunched together touching and they were fine with that. Rocks are fine too, I've had them sitting on shelves on the side of a big stone circle rock too.

Or tree branches. If there are any trees around them get rid of them.

I think respawned rocks and stuff can cause issues too.

They dont like roofs and their entrances (the crack in front and in the back) need a space of 2m apart (1 normal tile floor); so you can place beehives side by side as long as their front and back are free from walls, rocks, trees or objects in general.

Also the beehives also act like roofs, so placing one above the other (or even above a bed or workbench) will make the game see it as under a roof.

I got like 10 of them in a row on my roof and they never failed to give me honey.
Free space on all sides and nothing above them obviously :)

Mine are working like they should and they're all pretty close together. Like barely enough room to walk between them close. But I have them on the ground, not placed on a wall. I didn't even know you could do that.

You running any mods? That might be interfering with it.

No mods, just vanilla on a dedicated server. I had no idea you could place them on the floor haha. Let me see if that works for me. Hopefully it works.

On the floor, they're still unhappy. There's at least 5 tiles between each beehive, and still they're unhappy.

I put mine on top of short poles stuck in the ground. Perfect height for collecting the honey.
