after 1,600 hours of solo play in valheim I got you. invest enough time in each biome to max gear and get your skills to a level of 10+

rushing biome progression equates to death. a lot of death.

meadows, favorite weapon skills 10+ before black forest. run and jump should be approaching 20 by this point. before you leave BF and go into swamp your favorite weapon skills should be 30+ and make the best gear you can (with upgrades)

i tried to go pure spear my 1st try, bad choice. 1h and shield has served me well.

Swamp is fine. I barely had upgrades and I did okay. Learning to parry is a big thing, and having an upgraded weapon. Get iron armor asap, and make sure you have good hp foods.

I would suggest a raised base in the forest just outside the swamp. Put a portal and a fire on it. If things get dicey you can retreat there.

Take your time and use a hoe to make raised paths in the swamp and just start clear cutting. Once you aren't being attacked by leaches and can see things coming it becomes a lot easier.

Carry poison resist mead and/or health meads, have maxed troll armour (+6 from bronze isn't worth the move speed loss imo), and use a mace or sword as your melee. Shoot blobs on sight, melee skeletons and un-starred draugrs, and shoot bodypiles before a starred enemy spawns. Carry a high level slash weapon for abominations too.

When in doubt, everything in the biome can be kited and shot with enough patience. I did this biome solo with a bronze sword and troll armour no problem. Just remember you're not playing DOOM and can't simply rip and tear. You need patience, strategy, and a lot of arrows.

skirt the edges of the swamp in the BF looking for a nearby dungeon. straight in to it via shortest route (Hoe optional), 1 stair up the back, set up a portal and a chest on the roof, bring the bench up too ( top level of dungeon is above abomination attack height . Port home, full rested buff, clear a dungeon and craft a shield, then a mace, from then on it shouldn't be so bad

The swamp is harder because it actually requires some tactics. In meadows and black forest you can just smash things.

Get a shield, learn how to parry, and use a mace as your melee weapon -- nearly all swamp enemies are weak to blunt damage. Get a fermenter and make some healing potion and some poison resistance potion. Pay attention to your stamina. Know when to run away.

Well, when you get a zweihander and a crossbow it does start to kinda feel like DOOM...
