Is it normal for the Elder boss to be half the map away?

I'll post the seed, but basically the closest elder according to the stones is an ocean away and right next to a plains. Just seems unfair/unfun to have the second boss right next to what I assume is a high level area since the weird goblin things tanks a lot of damage and the weird bison thing one shot me plus my raft 8jeBPMA2sP

Yea this map is kinda terrible but I love it.. exploring is my absolute favorite part of the game.. and sometimes the harder it is to find something the better.. the journey is half the fun..

damn so much plains.. and you got kinda boned on the snow caves/larger biomes.. both the elders to the west I think would be easy.. just have to approach them from the north. That swamp to the south east is crazy good.. 14 sunken crypts my seed has nothing close tot hat most I had in one area was 5 lol.

Thank you everyone for the info. I had planned on setting up a portal, but obviously died before I could.

Wow, that is a bizarre seed. I don't usually see a map with that kind of centre, it does seem pretty damn bad in terms of elder boss spawns. But that's RNG for you. Sometimes the stars align, and sometimes this happens.

That happened to me in my very first run. I spent so much time trying to find him that at some point I read out his location from the game files. That was before the world generation website existed. That's why I have suggested that the trader should maybe be hinted at or get his own vegisivir, as a safety net against really bad rng.

Sometimes RNG is crazy. I found Haldor on my starting continent. Along with 2 Eikthyrs, 2 Elders and Moder. I don't have a location for Yagluth yet but with 3 large plains still unexplored he may also be there. Bonemass was a short boat ride away.

My first map had moder on a nearby mountain, with nearby i literally mean i turned around from my starter location and there was that mountain 200 meters ahead.

SW location is three/four days in raft from center island, as it seems. And you have even a patch of Meadows nearby. Just watch out mosquitos during the last stage of the expedition. It is RNG, but every map has not to be easy cake.

Normal? When RNG dictates so much, normal is a thing that basically doesn't even exist.

And wow. That is a terrible seed, lol. Yes, Plains is the 5th biome, so getting attacked by enemies from there while trying to deal with biome 2 is certainly rough.

Looking at the map, I'd take the Elder spawn to the south-southwest. Make a small base in the meadows area just north of it, and you can use that as a jumping point straight into those large swamp areas to the east and west of that island, and then deal with Bonemass when you're ready.

Normal? No, you are on the ugly side of average. Most elder spawns are going to involve a boat ride or some walking, but it shouldn't be more than 20% of the world radius, nowhere near 50%. On the nice side of average, it can be pretty darn close to your spawn point and first boss playground.

Its not uncommon to have plains near elder. That boss is usually far enough from center to encounter swamps on the way too.

While plains suck for Black forest explorer, the mosquito damage has been nefrfed so hard its not a oneshot anymore... unless you eat on the cheap.

Your elder isnt particulary far, seen further many times... but it's on the RNG to provide you with so many plains in the way. It is definitely a difficulty spike. But nothing insurmountable. Just be weary not to run into plains when fighting. The sound of the fight can attract the plains creatures to venture into the forest. Which can be a good thing, they will help you fight the boss... just dont take aggro on yourself.

The worst enemies would be mosquitos so keep an eye for them. You can kill them with any weapon except fist. So before starting the boss check if any are buzzing close and snipe them.
