Does terraforming prevent spawns?
I just saw a video that suggested that if I level the ground... even if I then use the cultivator to put grass over it... that will STOP all mobs from spawning on that area ?? Is that true?
I'm sort of building up and now expanding a small Meadows island, thinking that if I make it a bit bigger, I can get a few mobs to spawn in. (Some of the middle of it was sunken / water too, so I raised that up as well.) Now I'm wondering if I just doomed this island to zero spawns ?

Nope! its not the terraforming but weather a stricture like a Work bench Torch/fire/bonfire or (I think) as Ward covers the area

The easiest way is to place workbenches, a Ward in the centre will alert you to base damage but its easier to place workbenches at each cardinal area, so you have a complete coverage over your base.
There is one setback, the benches also prevent fish, boar and neck spawns, so you may want to keep the coverage down to the least needed... if you want to fish near :P

idk. i've thought i'd noticed this behavior before, but never really investigated it. however, i just leveled the swamp in a huge swath around the bonemass altar without putting up any benches etc (outside the one's i have at my portal very close to the altar). before i did, the number of mobs in this area was nuts. now the only things i see once in a while are wraiths which are coming in from a distance, and 2 skeletons which are spawning where there used to be a bone pile. there are no more draugr, leeches, or abominations anywhere nearby.

Nah. I was just disassembling a meadows base this morning...it was terra-formed all around...but as soon as I removed my benches, Necks started spawning. Annoying little ankle biters...
