Is it still true that the serpent spawns are reduced significantly if the camera is pointed down while sailing as a yt vid I watched said?

the camera frustrum is not involved in spawns.

Interesting you point out the illogical nature of thinking a hat a lucky because you had good luck while wearing it but failing to realize the premise of your argument (the existence of "luck") is just as illogical. I'm just saying. If you're going to believe in "good luck" they why not believe it exists in a pair of socks? One is not more illogical then the other.

What counts as ocean and what you observe as ocean are two different things at times.

You can be in the middle of the "ocean" with no land in sight, yet be in meadows, swamps etc for example because that's what exists 3m below the surface. Sometimes the transition from land biome to ocean biome is quite abrupt and close to shore, leading you to seeing serpents close to it.

I've also got a kracken close enough to one of my bases that i can build a ramp out to it. technically its in the "ocean" but its within 20m of the shore.

the procedural generation can do weird stuff. that sounds cool though.

all zones that are in the water. So if a meadows is surrounded by ocean, the serpent can spawn in the waters around that meadows. Same if it was swamp or any other biome surrounded by ocean

but can a serpent spawn IN a meadows biome (I know they can spawn and MOVE into the other biomes).

I thought they only spawned in actual "Ocean" proper. But I've been wrong about things before so....

That is exactly what I thought... and any spawn you saw in the ocean during the day (clear skies) was a previous spawn during a rainy day.

I have a guy here says he saw one "spawn" in a river.... and I tried to tell him that had to be one that followed him from the ocean on a rainy day.

Night spawns..despawn at night.

Day spawns remain.

There are "huge" rivers ( with 60-100 metters betwen lands i guess ) with ocean biome just when leave a meadow shore , i have some of these serpent respawns in this kind of rivers , are the best for farming but you become bored of patroling this rivers at night or storms

A zone in that context is a 64x64 square on the world grid.
Those which are in Ocean biome may spawn that creature.
ofc, such a spot can easily be within active range of a player on a shore, and follow inland some way before being spotted.
