A fireplace on the second floor?

So I spent most of today so far trying to build a bigger base, but one on stilts essentially (for visibility and protection) and I forgot one thing: campfires need to be placed on ground. Is there any way to get a fire up to a second story other than having to knock out a floor tile and physically raise the ground up to that level? It looks ugly but it's the only way I can figure out to do it.

Neat. Does the kiln still work and just pass its own smoke through the campfire?

Yeah, the kiln smoke goes thru the camp fire, but it temporarily puts out the campfire, only when the kiln is running. I usually have a couple of kilns, so it's not noticed.

The old campfire levitation trick still works. Put a campfire down and then place a board underneath it (you can square if off first with boards and then place it). As long as some of the flames still rise through the wood, it will stay lit.

Then you can pick to excavate all around it. As you dig around, make sure to use vertical wooden beams to support the floorboard. As long as you keep the floorboard supported while excavating, the campfire will remain levitated.

A quicker way is to get a bunch of stone and raise ground with the hoe. Raise ground directly below your feet for as high as you wish to. Drop the campfire on top of it, and then proceed with the floorboard beneath and supporting beams.

After either of these methods you can even remove the floorboard and the campfire will remain levitating as long as there are those supporting vertical beams in place, or something else that's load bearing. Try experimenting with it. Any piece not dark red on load bearing can support the campfire after removing the floorboard beneath it.

If you have reached iron age ( able to get iron) you can use iron-reinforced beam in your floor construction and place a fire on top of that beam...

I can give you some iron for the stonecutter if you want :)

You can use the hoe and stone to raise ground, you don't need iron.. first level tool.

That said the best solution is to build on top of a large rock and use the top of the rock for the fire base.

You don't need the stone floor. I built one on two stone pillars that's two pillars high.

I can't make stone yet. I'm still pre-Elder and trying to do this. Good ideas for late game, though.

Yes, but only if one can build with stone. I built my base in one of those Stonehenge-like circles. I used the indestructible stones to support log beams rather than using stilts. I had to raise the ground up to the second level to place a fire there before I could build with stone.

Once I could build with stone, I pick-axed the column of earth and replaced it with a shaft of 2 x 1 stone blocks. I placed the first two side by side to form a 2 x 2 base then rotated the next 2-block tier 90 degrees. I capped the shaft with a 2 x 2 stone floor piece. The cap protrudes above the surrounding wood second floor by 20-25 centimeters. Not perfect, I know, but it keeps me out of the fire.

I have seen posts where fastidious vikings build their fires on the ground surrounded by floor tiles and then snap a floor tile into place in the fire. They prefer not to look at the ground.
If one carefully aligned the top of an earth column with the surrounding floor tiles perhaps one could do the same.

An adventurous viking might then pick-axe the earth column in hopes that the fire and its associated floor tile would remain in place.

You could raise the ground to make a pillar in the middle. It wouls be a slighty cone shape really. You could cover up the earth 'cone' with a circle/octagan shape around it and pick axe the very top to make it flat for the fire.

Well there are only 3 options:
A) Raise ground to as high as you can and build a house araund it (just a pillar)
B) Use stone (you can start with iron and then move to stone for even greater height)
C) You can use iron pillars and place fireplace on them BUT!!!!! you will not get a reseted buff (still good for visuals)

Example:

P.s. dont ask me how much iron bars i used..ugh... (a whole largest boat full of iron)

But if you just need some light, torches, mushums lights, sufling heads, ice resistance potions always work well.

2 : puting a hanging brazier close the floor , you can do this with with 1m poles over the floor
