It is not that bad. You just need to adjust your tactics and know what foods to use and when to use them. It is far more challenging but it is not massively difficult.

I had no issues in Black Forest during day. Barely got attacked mining copper. Swamp on the other hand is a corpse crawl. I have to sneak along the edge of the swamp and try to get in a crypt before I get clobbered.

Seems like Stagbreaker is your new best friend. On an interesting sidenote- dig a hole, jump in, and hammer away with stagbreaker- if hole is at just the right depth mobs can't touch you while you hammer them.

I haven't had that problem but I've seen other people talk about it, so there's probably something to it. Maybe the new terrain thing glitched and is doubling up spawns? Is this a new seed or an old one?

I'm definitely noticing a massive increase in greydwarf mobs, especially at night.

I've noticed this too, doubly so when trying to mine out a copper vein. I had to dig out a massve trench around it, and drop 3 campfires at the entrance to keep the horde out. And when i say horde, there were enough that the game started to "forget" that greydwarves are scared of fire and they start hitting them, or ignore em completely.

all I know is I've seen mobs of gray dwarves that easily number of 9-10 and that's never happened to me before

During the day not that much. My first copper excursion after H&H I was actually surprised by how calm it was.
But during the night, definitly. Can't run 20 meters without encountering a new patrol

I have noticed it as well. New seed new character and on Day 1 I got chased by 10 greydwarves when I accidentally went into the black forest. Yes I died.

So they counter the issue of not really having much content, by doubling the number of enemies. At least it's straight forward.

Oh, so that's not how the game normally works. I bought the game recently and when I reached the black forest I didn't know how to deal with so many enemies. After I somehow miraculously managed to survive a group of greydwarves another group appeared out of nowhere, it was pure madness. The only thing I could do was running like a maniac stopping to sometimes hit someone once or twice before I kept running in circles.

I don't like to complain when games are hard because they usually give you what you need to deal with the difficulty but I don't think the game is being fair right now. I mean, the game went from making me fight with one sometimes two boars, maybe some small monster that was barely a threat when I didn't even have a weapon, to sending after me hordes of vicious monsters that barely let me breathe. It definitely doesn't feel right because that's not a difficulty curve, it's a wall.

They do give you a hint that 'it is dangerous at night'. If you are running around the Black Forest at night, then be prepared to be mobbed. As for mining at night, just build a wall around your copper vein... I've had tons of dwarves attacking my wall as I mine at night, and they rarely do 1/2 damage to any single wall piece, and you can repair it in an instant easily with the hammer.

It's not at night that this is noticeable but during the day. I've trenched the area around a spawner but occasionally whole groups spawn outside of the area I have dug out.

If you are out at night, you will get a lot more greydwarves attacking. Especially if you are gathering items. Also, there are spawners that continuously spam greydwarves, shamans and brutes that can make it appear that they are coming from nowhere. Bottom line, stay out of the Black Forrest (or anywhere) at night if you can help it. Always be prepared to fight or RUN.
