H & H Trailer

Had a downed ISP problem for 2 weeks and finally got to see this. About the stupidest way to say nothing that I have ever watched.

Yep. That's the one. Absolutely worthless as a source of any useful info.

Yeah. I'm not gonna lie, that one had me scratching my head too.

What puzzles me is that they would use that as a "teaser" when they had already released videos with actual information on the update.

On many sites it was lauded as the "Gamescom hearth and home trailer/teaser"

This animated short didn't enlighten me in anyway as to what was coming.

I'm assuming they had to outsource this animation or someone in house is talented enough to make such a video. Either way, for a studio that has been reluctant to hire programmers, and has not been particularly expedient with new content, I find it puzzling that they would spend resources on this.

You're getting content in a few weeks and you're upset over an animation.

Whew.

Whew.

I don't think he is upset.

8 months is a long time to wait for a substantial update.

One of the excuses put forth was the small design team (lack of human resources).

I think it is more than fair to question the point of this 1:47 video. It certanly wasn't a demo using the game engine. It didn't have any dialogue. The only text was at the end "Coming September 16th"

If you research animation costs online you'll learn that a 2 minute animation can cost between $20,000 and $200,000. For a team reluctant to hire programmers, this might seem like a questionable choice to some.

If they indeed spent 200k on the animation, and average pay scale for programmers is 40-100k, than one could argue they might have been better served hiring two more programmers.

I would have much rather viewed some kind of cinematic that actually featured some of the new mechanics, and I would have rather seen this cinematic done using the game engine.

And you can find all that in other videos, some of them listed above. So whether or not a promo animation provides anything other than what it intends to do: promote the game, is irrelevant. Also you're going to see the content in a few weeks and you're not paying extra to do so. If you've already bought the game, there isn't any decision to make on whether or not the update is worth it, because you've already bought the game.

And the devs decision to hire (which they have, by the way) isn't any of our business, especially if we've already purchased the game. I mean holy crap, you have over 1000 hours in the game and now is when you're suddenly suspect of what the devs are doing? You've clearly got your money's worth. I don't understand the scrutiny when they've already delivered a worthwhile product, and that despite ridiculous speculation and criticism over setbacks during a global pandemic, they are still putting out content.

tl;dr it's an animation. Get over it. you'll see the content in 2 weeks.

"A million thanks to our awesome friends at animation studio Brikk for bringing the Viking purgatory to life - Bragi is surely smiling down on you."

Iron Gate development resources were not "wasted", if you want to call it like that.

You quoted "wasted" and I never used that word. I used "this might seem like a questionable choice to some"

and...

"if they indeed spent 200k on the animation ...One could argue they MIGHT have been better served hiring two more programmers"

I haven't stated any absolutes here. NO opinions as facts.

To be fair, it did announce the September 16th date. Right? So that's not nothing.

So based off this, do people complain when other companies air commercials? No because that is how they advertise, which is what that video was, advertising a upcoming update. As the saying goes, you have to spend money to make money.
