tar need to chill
the tar needs to chill. It's initial release deathsquitos all over again. if more than 2 come after you you're basically just dead. Stun locked and perma slowed feels like a really **** game mechanic.

shoot a lox or 2 and drag them to the spawn, the lox and tar growths will go at it and you can kill the mobs that live easy.also good way to farm lox drops before you tame some.

Those tar monsters killed me a few times. And killed me when I went to recover my equipment. But I was wearing troll armor and armed with bronze weapons and my equipment and food are clearly not strong enough for the plains biome. So that's almost expected.
Just get better equipment and food. Or avoid this biome until you're stronger.

rolling ignores the slowdown so you can approach and dodge still when fighting them, but the main problem then is running out of stamina so carry some stamina potions

They are fairly easy to manage once you learn when they shoot at you. You can basically circle around them as they are firing and once they stop, rush in quickly for the kill. Or, you can just pick them off with arrows at a distance. The root mask is really good for poison resistance also. I'd have that handy when taking on growths if you don't want to carry around poison potions.

The Growths? they are going to be a pushover by the time Mistlands goes live. They won't even be a threat that much anymore I reckon. They can be blocked with a shield too.

I wear a root mask with padded armor.. dodge roll the attack then a couple hits with a Frostner and they're dead. I died several times until I figured it out. Also, you can still dodge roll even while slowed. Keep your stamina up and if you get hit dodge roll away.

Run diagonally after they jump till they finish firing, then attack.
Shield-blocking prevents the slow effect.
Knives are handy for closing the distance with the leap attack.

they are definitely the hardest enemy in the base game. they have a huge aggro radius and you need to keep an eye out.
but they also create infighting opportunities in a biome that used to have none.

Tar is fun! Scary fun! They are easy to take down - just use fire arrows from a distance. You do have to be hyper aware and you will learn how close they can get before you're in trouble. The attack/retreat method works well. :)
