i thought workshops/artisan tables stopped mob spawns in a certain radius.
i have a whole bunch of these tables around my base TRYING to stop the CONSTANT greyling spawns and harassment. (they're not even a threat, they're just annoying now) and it doesn't seem to be working.

I put in a bug that they are not stopping fulings from respawn.
BTW - Work benches and fires do not stop a mob from spawning during any event.
Are they spawning from an altar (glowy wood thing with fuling totem on it)? If so, that's a nest spawner and player base items do not suppress nest spawners (including body piles, greydwarf spawners, etc).
Also, as posted before me, player base items will prevent event spawns from within their normal anti-spawn control radius. Events happen over a very large area, so spawns can still occur outside of player base controlled areas and charge to your current location (since they spawn already in an aggro mode, they automatically always know where you are as long as it's within 200 meters while the event is active).
I took over a Fuling Tower, added to it, have benches in it, and around it and the Fulings still appear around the tower on occasion. The building and surrounding tower is well covered in items that should not spawn Fulings.

edit: i'm not talking about events. i know they don't stop events spawns. i'm talking about just normal play
If you are using workbenches to suppress spawns, you can test your coverage by equipping your hammer, selecting a build piece from the workbench (like a wood beam), then running all over your base, watching the display at the bottom of the screen. If you enter an area not covered by a workbench, the workbench requirement icon will flash red. You can also watch the coverage circles appearing on the ground, and look for gaps that way.
BTW, spawn suppression items absolutely DO stop event spawns --- but only within their area of effect. Events are different in that the creatures can spawn a long way out, far past the visible red circle, and they will then aggressively move toward you. But if you have strong walls and complete inside suppression, you're usually good. I have several bases built way out in the water with complete suppression on the land. I've gone through several dozen raids in such places where nothing ever appeared at all. Well, not bats or drakes. Those flying *&@^ers will show up anywhere because they spawn above the coverage.

Bad greys go in the hole.
If you're just talking about normal spawns during the day, confining them will prevent more from spawning in the same area.

I have recently noticed the longer one is active in an area, spawn variety & numbers increases. A good method to keep creature spawn activity in an area one is working in to minimum, is to set your bed rest to a different location and head out to sleep before night time begins.

Torches will stop them from spawning too. My favorite way to stop harassment though is using wolves as guard dogs. It's easy to kite a couple down from a mountain and trap them. Look at wolves as a weapon that will follow you around.

tried that... then the swamp event happened. i don't have wolves anymore

It wasn't changed but sometimes (likely a bug) things can spawn even inside work bench radius as you can see here. This base is fully enclosed, it has a wall, a berm, and a dry moat and there is not any where that is not covered by a work bench. Nothing from the outside can get inside but occasionally a deer will spawn inside the base.

As to my knowledge, except for bugs and as TheBoot above said, nothing has changed for now.
However, due to the commented upon limited radius of the "no-spawn zone" around the workstations, try to see if you have any area that is uncovered. Worst case scenario, you might have to put down a workbench, campfire or similar somewhere.
Personally, I tend to go for the "honeycomb coverage" of the areas, using temporary small poles to know where the limits of the areas go and make them overlap slightly at the borders. Apart from the glitches from time to time, it seems to work.

Well this was my first large base when I was new to the game. When I got troll raids I raised the berm. That wasn't good enough because the trolls could see over it and they threw rocks and damaged structures, killed livestock, and destroyed crops. So I added the moat with a core wood beam across it at each gate, built a barn instead of just a pen for the live stock so the trolls couldn't see them, and raised a stone wall around the crop beds so the trolls couldn't see those either. Those are some hefty earthen walls!

Nothing else spawns at that point just a single deer on rare occasions. Once I finished the defenses nothing that walked got in from the outside. If we got a ground is shaking event and ignored it nothing happened but when the event despawned there would always be one or 2 trolls waiting outside for us and if it was a Foul smell that we ignored there were always 6 or 7 skeletons and as many as 12 Dragur waiting for us when we exited from one of the gates. There is another deer spawn point and a grayling spawn point just outside the moat that is also outside work bench range and occasionally we can pick up deer meat, hide, wood and resin because the raid killed the stuff that was outside.

The workbench radius isn't really all that big. It's about 20m. The base items will only stop enemies from spawning inside their area, it won't stop any who spawn outside it and come to visit. During mob attacks, enemies can actually spawn outside that red circle and come to you. Because it's an event, they start off alerted and know your location so they'll always come to your base if you stay inside. If you're not talking about a mob raid and just general spawns... kinda the same thing. They won't spawn inside the area of your base item but unless you completely fill the surrounding area with workbenches or campfires or wards... you're always going to get spawns nearby.
