Serious Question About Games Weather And Sailing

Is the games coding designed to recognize when you are in a boat or long ship, and trigger server weather events? At least 90% of the time I go out on my ship, I leave when the weather is clear, then within 10 minutes the weather will turn hostile. It will remain like this until I leave my ship. I wonder this because I was just in game on my way back when a crazy storm hit, and lasted until the moment I landed at my home base then suddenly stopped. In addition to that I've also noticed that the fog mechanic triggers more often when you're are sailing. It would be nice if we could mount some kind of torch onto our ship for lighting, and a rope of some kind to secure our ships when out raiding or exploring. I find it hard to believe that Vikings would be so careless with their ships, especially with how prized they were, and important raiding was in the Viking culture.

I felt the same, whenever I went sailing in the Long Ship back when Valheim was first released the sun was out and blue skies day time and I loved exploring.
The only time I saw storms was at night and that brought out the sea serpent as he is tied to night storms.
Now as soon as I get away from my base clear skies and sunshine the skies darken and its full sleat rain lightning like its calling the sea serpent out in the day time.
I dont mind rain but I want see the beautiful Valheim biome coastlines as I sail around and explore it happens everytime.
As for the sea serpent he shouldnt be appearing in the day time storms..

No. The weather and what you are doing have zero relation to each other. (aside for like special events like raids and bosses, and the weather starting a brand new world).
Different biomes show weather differently (like storms elsewhere are blizzards in the mountains, and so on.)

Well there's your problem. The raft absolutely SUCKS. :P It has terrible durability and is incredibly slow. I generally skip over the raft entirely and just wait until I can make a Karve instead.

Also, as said before, different biomes can have different weather. When you leave the shore you're in the meadows still. Then as soon as you hit the ocean biome the weather changes. And when you hit a shore again it changes once again.

Haha, it seems like it, huh? I swear the amount of times heavy fog has rolled in while I'm getting close to shallow areas and need to be able to see clearly...

I believe that is ocean's weather. Your starting biome and the ocean don't share the same weather thus changing the moment you arrive home.

Its like being glued to a trampoline. If you stop the boat and sit, you will go up and down and roll around a bit but you can just sit there until the storm passes, and it will, and you are exactly where you were before. I have sailed days without a storm and I have been caught in what feels like hurricanes. If I can't see, I just park it and alt-tab until it passes.

you can wear the light hat but its not much good out there. Neither would a torch, though. Lights don't help that far off.

IIRC the raider ship design was 100% symmetric so they just rammed up onto the shore, grabbed the women and sheep, then shoved off facing the other way, with the old back being the new front....

It has been said that once you leave the boat it stays there. I have been trying this out and have left the boat a few meters off shore and swam in. and the boat is still there even after many game days.
