This really makes me ponder whether I should only upgrade to bronze tech and train with basic player's skills (meleeing, sailing, building) until release, as I'll have to start a new world or reset current one on every next update anyway, at least until devs decide to integrate (backport) additions to former builds. This way I would be spoiled only about three biomes.

Why? Buy it now and it is only $20, and there is definitely $20 of content in this game already. If you wait untill it is fully released you will probably end up paying twice, if not more, than that.

I think OP's goal is to wait until the game is in it's full glory before experiencing it for the first time. Cool, but it 's pretty glorious now.

Still would make sense to buy it now. You get it cheaper and help support the completion of the game.

I kind of regret not waiting, but it's a really fun game. Definitely needs way more content though, so if you can wait till full release I'd recommend it.

hard to tell imho - devs are still creating content

If you can make your own goals, dont mind grinding mats and exploring, expect to need to play carefully... I would say its worth picking up now, before the inevitable launch price increase.
You can easily get the cash worth out of the game, maybe wait for xmas Steam specials and see if it goes down a bit though.

I have more than gotten my moneys worth out of this game as is...
