Controllers need fixing, constant glitches and wrong inputs
One of the biggest things with this game is still broken, the controls. If you play with a controller get ready for a constant headache.
Now let the obligatory "I have never have any issues" posts commence.

Recently my triggers have started applying both the left and right trigger inputs on trigger pulls. I don't know what's changed but it's made it difficult to play without mouse and keyboard.

The triggers also often swap, RT becomes block and LT attack.
I use an Xbox controller and initially had the same frustrating trigger swap thing happening. I read somewhere enabling big picture mode in Steam before launching Valheim might help. I tried that and it fixed my trigger issues for good.

So, are people using the Steam Input side of things?
I ask because I use a Steam controller and had not had issues but in the past day or so I've experienced strangeness. This coincides with a recent Steam update so the problem may not be directly in the game perhaps?
Edit: Actually, this made me check the patch notes and ironically, I think my issue relates to something they supposedly fixed I never experienced but now I'm experiencing it.

Happy to oblige. I play with a PS4 controller as well and honestly if I couldn't use it I probably wouldn't play at all.

A little detail on your problem would help, only issue i have with the controller is not being able to split stacks or drop items from inventory, building with a controller is really straight forward, are you sure it's not your hotkeys what are wrong? or a faulty controller?
To split stacks or drop from the inventory you hold the right trigger and press A or left trigger and A for split. The problem is sometimes bows don't work, you draw the arrow back and it never fires. The triggers also often swap, RT becomes block and LT attack. As well the focus of what you're highlighting changes when pulling up the inventory it pulls up the log or skills window without me pushing the button for it.
Thankyou, that'll save me time swapping to mouse and keyboard, i have never encounted the trigger swapping issue but i've seen plenty of threads, I don't know if they are connected but every trigger swapping thread i have seen they all used wireless controllers

I have a carpal tunnel condition that makes it very difficult to use a mouse for more than a few minutes, so I use a controller. This is not insanity. My wired xbox controller has had no issues so far (80 hours or so). Building is fine - easier than some other games. Just need kbd for naming things.

I do, and it works just fine for me. Who plays a building game with a controller? That is insanity.

Lets see, people who want to play comfortably, people with disabilities, there are many reasons. Please don't be so ignorant.

Your point is valid but hes right. Its insanity xD.
But i know about an example that plays survival games onehanded with some special mouse setup.

Sorry you are having issues. I use a PS4 controller with no issues other than having to reboot the game if it comes unplugged, because otherwise character just spins. Did just figure out the Trigger controls for splitting stacks & such. Don't understand all the hate for controller users?? Personally, I can't stand WASD controls & get tired of mapping everything to the NumPad. Only other issue is with Steam showing buttons for XBox controls instead of being able to choose PS or XBox.

I also use a controller exclusively now that I'm older and holding my left hand in WASD is incredibly painful for extended periods of play...building works fine here.
...the only real 'glitch' using my controller is that when splitting a stack in Inventory and moving to a container, I'll get my cursor passing over into the Status Menu and that's annoying. I've started to split and move to an open slot in my backpack Inv, then using R Trigger and [A] to move that slot to the open container slot...been working pretty good. Rather than splitting the stack and then using the Dpad to change active window to move the stack...that is where it bugs out[for me] and opens the Status Menu as well, sometimes going as far as engaging Friendly Fire!
I agree, Controller support needs some help/love...
