WHY Gear up to retrieve grave?

I see a lot of talk about getting your old gear to go get your stuff from where you died. I have never done this. I thought I might have to like in terraria but I don't because of the corpse run buff.

My worst deaths were dieing in a tower in plains and had a about 4 goes getting back but never had to risk more equipment I just ran. A troll and a bunch of lesser enemies were hammering me on my spawn point but eventually the dust settled and I was good to go. Died other side of island made 2 long runs but got my stuff back without risking more equipment.

Now that I know more the best way I believe to retrieve a gravestone solo is set a spawn or portal kinda close by, pick up a rock, run for the grave if your unsuccessfull then go again but go for the second grave with the rock and you'll get the corpse run buff which should give you the fortitude to collect the original grave. And that's it, it should be very doable to get your grave back without gearing up when the secondary gear.

Gotta admit I like that idea, I might do that just so I can use up all that excess troll leather.

There is a simple dumb solution I was told...

SPOILER ALERT
Exit the game, enter another land (local or online) and heal yourself. Then go back into the game where you were and do what you need. Yes this can be a cheat but its also a pain to keep getting killed to get your stuff back. 5% drop it stat is annoying if you keep dying imo

It does bother me when I get to my corpse and I cannot loot everything in one click because i have inventory.

I mostly do it in places where i know I can be (have been) one hit if i'm naked.

The troll armour weighs little, gives a bit of protection but adds bonus to sneak. Most important if all, I can ditch it with loss of any limited resource ( i.e. ores).

Once you get too excited with the gameplay, you might get too carried away, and end up dying somewhere deep inside a biome, or near a boss.
Not getting at least some gear(especially when you're one of those players who cannot get themselves to cook food that is better than 2 berries and a roasted meat) will likely result in dying repeatedly, because your health is NOT enough to take even a single hit from poison attacks, or from Deathsquitos.

I think, eating Lox Pie, Serpent Stew and a Blood Sausage is more than enough to take any kind of damage when running for items bare naked, but not all players can afford that much extra resources, so it is always a good idea to set up with some gear to reduce incoming damage.

My favourite death so far was inside a dungeon boss room on the wrong side of a spawner. Recovering that was a *project*.

I think it all depends on the player and the situation. I'm with you, I don't normally gear up for a corpse run but I might grab a spare shield or weapon if I'm expecting skeetos anywhere along the way..

I actually think having anything in inventory is a liability, because if my tombstone is anywhere close to full I need to take time to manage inventories which can be bad news, made even worse if my mobility depends on the weight belt.

For me it depends on the situation.
For instance; earlier today I was killed by a one star and a two star fuling while out lox hunting. It happened very near to a portal I had just put up. All I did was top off my food, swig down a quick stamina mead and portaled back to the fight.

Another time I was out exploring the coast and was nearly a two day sail away from home when I got killed by a fuling after putting in to shore on a plains biome. They destroyed my portal so I had to fully gear up in my best spare equipment to do the two day corpse run.

Edit: That long corpse run is still one of the most epic and funnest adventures I've had in Valheim so far.
