Not doubting you but every play through I've done so far had at least 6 crypts with Bonemass.

Yeah, it's generally a good bet, no doubt. And I've only had that one playthrough where there were no crypts at his spawn (though I generally don't go to ALL his spawns, so might have happened in a few of the others). I'm just saying that there's not a guarantee of crypts there from personal experience.

Other than that one, I've also had a playthrough where his first spawn area only had two crypts (and one of them had a grand total of 29 Iron Scraps in it, hah).

There's a good chance the crypt might contain scrap iron in a chest with a 1/5 chance, and around 10-20 in a stack. On average i'd guess around 5 mud piles ? So probably a stack there ? It varies a lot but around 45-60 on average is my guess. Some crypts can end up yielding many stacks, up to 120 even i think.

I average 60-90 on average per crypt, I've gotten as few as 24, and I've got as much as 124 (or 134, according to my friend, there was a miscommunication about ten of it, heh).

While you do get a good amount from the muddy scrap piles in there, it seems the majority we find in chests (at least in some crypts).

put the seen in the map generator to see how many are in each biome

Very random, sometimes you'll come across half a dozen alright-to-good swamps with no crypts at alll, and sometimes you'll come across a mega large one, or even just a small with nearly a dozen crypts.

That's why i like to mark a swamp whenever i see one when sailing or even exploring.

Total RNG. We had a HUGE swamp only to have 3 and then the next medium swamp we've cleared a dozen, with a half a dozen more.

I think they repopulate now as well? I read that somewhere, but have not seen it in practice.

no, it's RNG to determine how many crypts are within the Swamp biome. Some biomes they are a few feet apart, some Swamps have few, if any...depends upon your Map World 'seed'.

Typically you'll find a continent that has a mega swamp and that will always have the most crypts.

It's all pretty random. I only found one in my first swamp, but then I set sail and found another conveniently located on the shoreline of another swamp biome. Once I cleared that I looked to my left and saw another not 20 yards away !! Random as Hell and totally unpredictable - it's what I absolutely love about this game. Nobody but nobody has the same experience as me - I literally never have a clue as to what I'll find over the next ridge or around the next corner.
