Larger mistlands regions can have a significant amount of lower flat areas between the rocks. That's where you're going to find the swords, shields, etc., and also the bones that you can get black marble from, but I find it easier to just bring a couple of iron to make a stonecutter and deconstruct buildings and/or bridge supports.

Mistlands is always rough, but it's not always wet. There are often sections of it that border mountains or other biomes that have flat areas. But it is best to go ahead and jump up there because you will be safer from the seekers and soldiers if you're not on the ground. If you do get attacked by a lot of seekers, keep looking around that area because there might be something there you need.

Most of the black marble does come from the buildings. You can also get it from giant skeletons. The skulls are especially valuable.

Compared to the other biomes: 3.
Very well made, but not really enjoyable to play.

8/10
feels like the mountains, where you get in, get what you need, and get out. This is as opposed to the swamp, where you go back 10000 times for iron or the plains where you return for rock, fine wood, tar bulk runs. There are only 2 things in the mistlands to come back for, jelly & marble. Marble is everywhere, so a full bag takes only moments. Jelly .. I am avoiding that topic for now.

I'll give it a 7/10.

My biggest complaints are:

- It takes too long to get the first set of cores. You should be able to start making ML items much earlier and have the grind be to get the mats to make the items.
- We need to be able to fix the Dvergr buildings. I feel like a walking wave of destruction. As soon as I get close to a Dvergr structure it gets destroyed, and I can't do anything to repair it.
- There are too many limitations on what can grow in ML. Unlike most previous biomes where you could plant prior biome crops, have bees, etc., you can't do that in ML, so you can't have a complete base there. That's true for swamp as well, but who wants a main base in a swamp?
- Magic just seems impractical to me, with all the inventory the staffs take, the additional food type that also takes up inventory space and takes away from your standard diet, the special armor, etc. It seems like you either have to go all in, or just don't experience that part of the game.
That's exacerbated by the fact that you're in end-game, and it's not easy to just switch tracks. You're stuck wandering around end-game territory in light armor, with little health, and little skill in the items that you need to protect yourself with.

I don't think the mist bothers me nearly as much as the terrain requiring you to suck out all of your stamina while you're trying to fend off multiple seekers and a blimp that's firebombing you. The climbing in Valheim has always been stupid, and for some reason the devs thought adding even more climbing to the game was a good idea.

And to add: if you go to the mistlands in your old world that you've already explored, it will still have nothing. You'll need to find a fresh mistlands that you haven't gotten too close to for it to spawn at all.

And as an extra note, I've heard that it doesn't spawn properly on old worlds in the first place at this time. If you go there, you'll likely find most of it an a bunch of rocks jutting out the water, nearly untraversable. You'll want to start a fresh world if you want to see the biome.

Just use the Upgrade World mod. It regenerates explored areas or just a biome. It spawned a tar pit spitting distance from my grain and lox farm.

If I heard correctly the world spawns 1 km out from the player.

From what I also see devs working on, I am getting a feeling that other areas are going to get updated at the same time as Mistlands. Fishing is getting an update, they have talked about mountains does not feel finished and other teasers. So I would not be surprised if the Mistland release updates a bunch more than just the biome itself.

I will repeat my original comment in that I want to respect both sides of the Mistlands update debate. But if folks care to speculate the road map (again in a respectful manner) then I would expect that Iron Gate is likely going to do several updates each year with changes to the existing biomes along with changes to crafting and at some point the big updates with Mistlands, Ashlands and Far North. Since they have teased the new forge along with some sneak peaks at a cross bow I would crystal ball an update around the same time as last years Hearth and Home crafting update that will bring us the new forge and the new items. I would also speculate that the current place holder for Yagluth Thing will be updated with something to unlock this new path in crafting. So all of the above comments about preparing a new seed and being ready for this expected Fall update are good ones and many thanks to all.

For me I will just play the map I'm on now, Have buildt one structure with all the goodies to work with metals etc. Looking for a new place to build same thing but in a spot that is close to 3 or 4 different biomes for next update. As i will use same seed to start again but using new location.

Forgive me as my brain is getting older, but I do remember reading that there will be new structures or ruins at some point with one of the updates prior or with the Mistlands? If so, using same worlds after update may not spawn these and I would not be able to see them If I dont start new seed as each patch comes out.

If you've been within several 100 meters of the Mistlands, the area will count as explored and no new content will be spawned there.

That said, "there is a mod for that", that can "unexplore" certain areas from your map. You just have to be very careful with that, or you will "unexplore", speak reset an area that you have already used to build upon.

I did this with my main when Ice Caves hit. I just moved all his stuff to a new world with the same seed.

I've been very cautious since, and I intend not to journey into Mistlands territory until the update actually hits the streets.

My second char, ready for Moder, is stuck in a wait loop, since Moder is in decidedly outer rim territory (Hutt country), where he has to pass several mistlands continents.

So he will have to wait for that. No problem, I have my fourth char to keep me busy. Or I can keep patching holes in my maps, which can also be fun.

But first, Mistland needs to be released.
After 1.5 years, you need to realize that Mistlands (or Ashlands) will probably be a mist, just like most of the successful EA games, the devs got millions of dollars and they have lost the incentive to work on a game that they already got the money. At best Mistlands will be the last major content update..

I sort of already did this.

I started a new seed, and I haven't left the original landmass I started on. I'm just concentrating on making a main base with all the amenities and defenses.

I have a main hall, and a max level forge and workbench inside, cooking stations, etc.

Started on a raised wall all the way around, and plan to have a dock that sticks out into the ocean.

Sole purpose is going to be a launch platform for when the mistlands update appears. :)

Also on some really bad seeds most or all of the Trader spawn locations will be out past plains. Not sure if getting to them would stop any Mistlands instances but the search may well do so - especially if in Karve and running from sea serpent.

It might be worthwhile to have someone check your seed with the World Viewer site for bad boss/trader placements with respect to Mistlands.

OK sure

How about needing to mine 30,000 cryotic for a key to the next boss fight.
Nodes are rare and only drop 1 each but are as large as copper deposits and you have to dig to the middle of each one for the drop.

That should take most people 6 months to finish or give up playing!

Moral of the story is ... be careful what you wish for.

Realistically though most of the bosses can be challenged right away once you get into a biome... not sure what you want honestly.

Grats if you finish it in a few days. Of course people can finish this game on speed runs in less than a real time day and there are many different choices players can make to make such easy.

I get that you equate coding and development work to the speed a player consumes it but its as erroneous as looking at a movies production for a 6 months to a year or more and saying that effort equates to the 2 hours you watched it.

Most people don't play Valheim though to rush through to beat bosses on an open world survival game like this. :P

One of the ways to look at it is with Mistlands released you can fully explore a world seed without fear, staying away from the far south and north and that seed will be good for when those biomes are released.

The only thing I worry about is when the Ocean is finally updated (my favorite and most eagerly awaited roadmap release) as I'm not sure if it would work the same with 'undiscovered' areas updating with successive content or would Oceans require an entire new seed.

and about mistlands, i really hope it will be at least for few weeks, not days. dont want finish that in 2 days :)

In an exploration game, it is on you how you finish content. Saying you hope it doesn't take days shows you are trying to 'beat' the game via Boss kills but that shows me that you are not here to play, just beat it.

Currently, Mistlands makes for a good outpost spot due to no enemies. In one of my worlds Bonemass was right next to a Mistlands, so I took advantage of the empty land. :steamhappy:

They're empty right now, but they will be a future biome full of scary creepy crawlies and a new boss.
