Yes, it works. There are diagrams.

These are directions on how to swiftly sail into the wind, and it is Very Fast.

When the wind goes against you, and you aren't in the open ocean or tacking is otherwise not helpful, drop sail and paddle, one arrow forward. You will still move, just slower.

The wind has a 75% chance of being in your favor, but it feels like much less due to the difference in speed between the two modes. You don't pay much attention when you are speeding along, but when you're forced to slow down, it feels like forever. So, subjectively you think the wind hates you when it's just doing its thing.

you can pick up a decent speed and go afk whilst using the level 1 speed "rowing speed" if you dont have wind in your sail

Wind does change, even in force. Try Moder's power if you have slain her if you want to steer the wind.

Otherwise, enjoy the trip. There's fish to spot, serpents to cull, waves to master, sandbanks and rocks to navigate around. The list goes on. It's truly something else from all of the continuous running, dodging, mining, and building, really.

Yeah sitting and doing nothing for 5-10-20 minutes at a time "truly is something else."

Like in real sailing you got to cross the wind who is forcing you to go either narrow up and then narrow down your intended direction. If you need to change direction without wind, slow down to the paddle. Beside that, it truly can be annoying.

You can also row the boat (one arrow = paddle). You are not dependent on the wind to move the boat!

It´s just rng. Sometimes I curse about it too but other times like yesterday the wind seemed to constantly change in my favour. That´s the thing with rng.. sometimes it´s great, other times it´s a ♥♥♥♥♥.

You realise you're suppose to lower your sails when wind is against you right so that you still move at a relatively ok speed?

(sarcasm on) Here's a tip. Activate the Moder power (once you have it) but don't use it. The last 5 times I've had the Moder power activated I haven't needed it as the the wind was mysteriously favourable. Funny that. It isn't RNG at all THE GAME KNOWS THESE THINGS. (sarcasm off)
