On two different map seeds I have started, one being on a rented multiplayer server and the other a Steam provided default map, I have found lots of boar along the nearest coast to the Pillars where I spawned into the game. Keep your eye out for boar runes. There are runes dedicated to boars' and they are almost always surrounded by a handful of boars.

With a light weapon like a knife only equipped, it is possible to chase down a running deer, if you are still having problems try going pantless if wearing heavy metal armour. Better yet, when in an area where deer are known by you to spawn, hunt them wearing leather armour equipped with only a knife.

As blankitosonic mentioned, "They commonly spawn in abandoned villages," especially those abandoned villages with fenced berry patches. I have yet to see what I call Berry Villages with no boars. Those villages with the fenced berry patches always have lots of boarses.

I'd say the most important thing is to not be hasty. Don't expect to have the scraps too early.

Breeding them is definitely the way to go though. Find a 1 star? That's your target. Lead him home. Find a two star and life will be great. Just a few runs for mushrooms and berries and you'll have more hides and meat than you'll know what to do with.

It takes time. But it pays off in the end. Make a big enough pen and you can get dozens every day.

^+1 if you are struggling to find boars then you should probably make a pen and lure in the first couple boars you find. Don't want to kill the only two boar you find after hours of searching and risk not finding any more after. Ofc there is a significant chance that you'll start running into herds of them after going through a ton of work to capture two, just because that's how luck be.

Boars find you. My favorite method of finding boars is to run to exhaustion, at which point I inevitably run into a ** heard.

Seriously, do everything else you need to do. When you wander into a boar's threat radius, they let you know.

You can also listen for them. One sound they make is quite subtle, it's just an exhalation, like "ha!," not very loud. Wear headphones. As you play, you will learn to recognize the shape of a boar from pretty far off.

** Never run to exhaustion. Unless you desperately need to find the most dangerous animal in the biome, with their pals.

I know that feeling when you desperately need to find scraps for your bow or even worse for your tanning rack. It's a nightmare!

And then when you get to higher biomes you will be practically swimming in leather scraps and don't know where to put them... :P

Hrm probably nothing RNG can be a PITA if you know what I mean.

Keep looking and make a point of reading all Lorestones you find some of them seem to be focus points for Boar spawns.

Just in case its a mechanical error I assume you have verified the game files with steam and there no mods involved her as some of them can trigger weird side effects - though not heard of this being one.

Edit: Oh one last thing occurred a second after I hit post. Make sure you keep killing the other stuff like necks so you make the game cycle creature spawns in the area your at. Might help can't hurt

Use sneak to kill dear. Come from behind making sure you have enough stamina when you reach them. Boars can be a bit hit and miss, but generally found in open areas or near the edge of a wood. Also look for runes in meadows woodlands and you generally get 4 of them hanging about. Mark the spot on you map and go back the next day to get more. Good luck

you can also tame them, find 2 dont kill them lure with agro to your base, make sure you have no fires and make them follow you to a pen, feed them raspberrys or musshroms, the´ll breed like crazy, in 2-3 game days you can have 7-8 boars to kill

There is usually one boar runestone close to spawn. Keep an eye on them because they will start walking away as soon as you get near, but if you stick around they will return to the stone so you can get all of them. Walking along the coast is good too.

Another good way to find them is to walk around when it's dark and you're not paying attention. They love to make you jump out of your chair with their squealing.

Explore more , not a 20mx20m meadow plane , you most scout a lot wider field of meadows to get lots of boars
And them commonly spawns in abandoned villages and 1 time spawn in some monoliths ( 1-10 and some can have stared version )

Go cut some trees with no armour and 25 health they will show up aha
