Is Valheim their only project still?
Before I start, I want to say I've been a fan of Valheim since the moment it hit the digital shelves! I have gotten far more than my moneys worth from this game and it's honestly one of my favorites of the past few years. I've been a staunch supporter of the devs and have patiently and passionately spoken in the suggestion forum about ideas for the game.
In all honesty, though, I'm starting change camps from the "they're a small company, its done when it gets done" group to the "this is really starting to take too long " group.
Valheim came out in February of 21, took 7 months before its first content patch, ostensibly due to the high demand and need to bugfix. That was 7 months for what basically turned out to be numerical changes in food values and a few new food/workbase items.
It's now been 14 months since Hearth and Home, over a year, and my original defense that they are a small company has become my complaint instead. How does it take over a year for a single biome? They are a small company... doesn't that mean they should be working on only this, their only active product? Sure one takes vacations, has offtime, special events and such but ...
There were a few small releases in that time, caves, armor stands etc.. but they themselves said these were small side projects conducted in offtime so as not to detract from their roadmap.
This isn't full development time either, the engine is done, all the systems are in place, this is pretty much just new geological feature generation and monster animation/sound work. With an average of about 5 distinct enemies per biome, a boss, and 1 new set of gear... over a year and counting for a few new texture maps, sound effects, and animation meshes seems pretty extravagant to me.
With Ashlands, the Ocean update, and the Deep North still to go AFTER Mistlands and the inevitable break from development to follow its release... should we really expect Valheim 1.0 to be arriving around summer 2026?
It just makes me wonder if the team is still treating Valheim as their active product.

Oh, and btw, this isn't their only project. They are also doing Factorio (I think it's called).
You are probably thinking of Satisfactory, which is developed by Coffee Stain Studios. Both share Coffee Stain Publishing as a publisher.

If anything, the main reason things are taking as long as they are is tax related. While I can't speak for how things are done where they are based out of, as somebody who works for a small business owner, it is a major undertaking to keep things balanced even with a good accountant. Then there's the fact that they probably had to jump through a bunch of legal hoops to make updates to their business account and then acquire whatever permits they needed to get for infrastructure improvements which can take WEEKS and/or MONTHS to finalize, and that's assuming there were no mistakes made during the initial filings.
With that all in mind, they probably lost the better part of a year just getting things straightened out so they could move forward fully as opposed to snails-pace like they've had to.
Thankfully things look like they're starting to pick up as we're getting a gameplay trailer in a couple days, and those aren't usually released very long before the actual update/release itself happens. Just be patient, we'll get our answers one way or another fairly soon.

Ya know if the devs woulda just came out and said something like this and or "Hey we hired a few more people and this is what happened" i think everything would be cool. we'd then understand? i just wish there was like "hey we still totally plan to finish the game all the way to ashlands and deep north but it will take some time." just some more communication :3 i think patience revolves around assurance. I also believe we can all be little whiney kids and want epic more content and the only reason we are complaining is because we all love the hell out the game and want more of it :3 i'm guilty on a level of this. I am dying for more Valheim.
HOWEVER i must also say on tuesday there is a going to be a stream sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo this the news good or bad will probably be able to calm my nerves from freaking out and being like "WTBanana is going on with valheim! rawrrr!" yeah. i do that.

I don't know why so many people keep going on about "what was promised". I don't remember any promises at all. When they came out with that Road Map they said it was what they hoped to accomplish that year. That doesn't sound like a promise to me. They later said that that was ridiculously optimistic. Granted, development has been unreasonably slow, but again, I don't care. If they never add anything to the game from here on, I'd still think that this is the best game I've ever played.

I'm really not trying to badmouth the devs or appear to be yet another impatient user clamoring for more content, just worried at the current trajectory for 1.0 given we still have 3 biome patches to go after Mistlands.
Which is in no way guaranteed to land in 22.

Its a wonderful game, but it isn't finished. There are 3 biomes completely empty (4 if you count Oceans; which are functional as-is but not finished), and the main storyline (tracked through defeating bosses) hasn't been finished either.
I am more than happy with what we have so far, but releasing a game that isnt finished through EA, (which is typically done either as a small company's way to debug/stress-test, or as a method of bringing in enough money to finish the project/keep the studio going til the product is finished) and then swapping out most of your personnel to work on the next cash-project isn't proper (not to say they wont finish it, just responding to Grin)

This game is dead. Just leave it at that until the devs get off their bums and get stuff done at a quicker pace. If they invested in more team members from their initial massively profiting launch they'd be in a much better position. Just give up hope and when it comes, it comes. Go on to another game until then.

This is exactly what I have done. It is pretty much abandonware at this point.

Dead, my ass. Why the heck should I do that when after more than 2800 hours I'm still enjoying the game and regularly playing it? This game is dead. I would be changing camps as you said except that 1) I think the game is fine as it is and 2) there is no guarantee that any future changes they make will make it a better game. If they change it, they change it. If they don't...Well I don't really care either way.

It is a far cry for what was promised, and lets be real here. What most people waiting for is more viking stuff. More sailing updates and places to plunder.

I wouldn't say I "changed camps", but I'm definitely much more critical of how the team takes advantage of the EA status. I don't think they gave up on the game but they seem to have this weird fetish about only releasing "perfect" patches/changes. First of all, with the amount of threads in the bugs section I have to laugh. Second, EA is exactly the time where you want to release buggy things to experiment, get feedback, involve the community that supported your game before it was finished. You want to tweak mechanics, rollback things that didn't work, etc.
Anyway, my guess is that they'll declare 1.0 after the Mistlands release and call it done.
