World Reset.
I am crushed. I played the heck outta this when it first came to EA, and my buddies and I recently started it up again, and I began building on my world again. Until suddenly, I log back in and the world was reset to (seemingly) the state it was in when we picked back up a month ago. My base doesn't have any of the changes I added recently. The kicker, though, the map did not reset. I am missing an ENTIRE LONGSHIP FULL OF IRON that I mined by myself, but all those crypts are mapped and cleared according to my map (I have not been on-site yet to see if the iron respawned.) Has anyone encountered this partial reset? Is all of m world progress lost forever? Please help, becuase I don't think I can pick this game up any time soon due to all I lost...

Sorry can't help you with the world is in another savestate problem. But the boat however.. could have been destroyed.. it happens far more often than it should. Especially in the swamps and plains. Where one small afk trip is enough for leechs or a fulings (in the plains) to destroy it.
If thew boat is gone.. can you see some of the mats floating around in the water? If its not deep you could take the iron out of the water.

I was using "Longship full of iron" as an example of what I lost, and as a quantity example. I had unloaded the longship and was in the process of smelting it all, so it can't have just been destroyed. The smelters weren't in the right position, and there were no chests to hold the iron, because in this state they hadn't been built yet.

1. Could be a cloud save that overwrote your local version of the world partially? (Removing inventory, but keeping map data, dungeon states etc.
2. Could be a bug (Never had that happen to me though, and I've played since it came out).
Now, a solution could be:
1. Grab all you and your friends can carry on your characters and create a new world, giving you a headstart on the new world.
2. Give up and wait a few weeks/months until you suddenly remember the fun you had with the game and decide to give it another go.

My worry is that a Cloud save overwrote it, but I don't know why it would, since I've only ever played on this laptop and always was online, so it looks like a glitch regardless. Especially since it's not inventory that was altered, but the state of the world itself. I think I'm just gonna have to wait for everyone to get back into it a year from now so that hours upon hours of iron hunting will be new again. I'm still sad, though.

I currently load the game using the .exe shortcut found at the file location and NOT through steam.
If I attempt to play the game via Steam, It tells me my files do not match, and gives me a choice between "local files" and "steam cloud files" BOTH... of which are Dated DECEMBER OF 2021.
Steam cloud has always been a buggy mess for me. In this game and others.

I found this on the fandom page because I was looking into server settings:
My progress got reverted, what can I do?
This is partially the previous desync problem, and another common mistake by shutting down the server incorrectly. The shutdown progression loss can be easily recognised as it happens after you kill your server. The way to prevent is to correctly shutdown your server by sending a SIGINT signal to it instead of terminating the process. On windows this can be achieved by sending a CTLR+C and accepting with a Y to the command window, on Linux you need to set up a trap and send the right signal or set up your service configuration to use SIGINT. As for restoring progress, you have no options, as it either never existed on the server or got lost by not saving the memory state.
This is for dedicated servers by the way.

That is truly unfortunate, seeing as I cannot be alone in that MY process for "shutting down the server" is simply to exit the game. Thank you all for the info, I guess I'll go cry until we start up this game a year in the future. Which we will. I'll just have to build another bridge come then. Might try logging out..then exiting? I don't know maybe that would help.
Only time I've actually lost progress was when I've lost power or did a hard reboot.
Then I'm usually taken back to the previous auto save.

I dont think this is an issue with servers hosted through the game, rather than a dedicated server though. That is truly unfortunate, seeing as I cannot be alone in that MY process for "shutting down the server" is simply to exit the game. What you could do is get some mods to speed up the game for you? I heard that ValheimPlus cuts down on the grind etc. I've never used mods, I might do in the future, but for now I'll stick to vanilla.
