I am having the same issue for some reason. I keep getting that "disconnected" message without i giving me the option to type in the password for the server.

Same, i dont get to any screen to input password

There was just an update. It's possible said servers are not yet updated.

My friends server has been updated. So far everyone is able to join but not me.

Well that makes it clear that your Computer is blocking it, maybe Firewall.

Tested that and his server has the latest update

Server shows up on Steams Server/Favorites. I cant even join that way or joining through friends list. I input correct password and after loading into the game and selecting character, i get the fail to connect after a few seconds.

AND never mind its now showing not responding after a refresh.....

Same issue here. Yesterday I could connect to my friend' server and since the update I get the errors messages Failed to connect or Disconnected.

Definitely not a firewall issue.
If it was a server update issue it wouldn't give a disconnect error but an incompatibility error instead.

I have tried the following with no luck.
1. Changing firewall settings.
2. Verified integrity game files.
3. Running game as administrator.
4. Update Network adapter.
5. Release & Renew IP Address.
6. Disable IPv6

Are you DSL by chance..... looks like the new patch pretty much kills multiplayer for DSL users.

I'm also having this problem - I have no problem getting into my own worlds, but when I try to join a friend's world or a server I'm disconnected instead of spawning into the world. I didn't have this issue until the latest update which really screws me over cos I was wanting to finally fight the bonemass in my friend's world

I have this same issue, my wife, has no problem joining any servers, yet I can't join any, same computers, net etc, no idea how to fix it either
