You can get soft and diffuse lighting from drakes eggs, poison meads, frost meads, and brighter light from your swamp key (which can be placed on item stands.) You can also make light boxes by making cubes using crystals (dropped by golems and found in frost caves) and filling the cube with thistles.

Finally, a use for those glowing mushrooms. Pity there isn't a stick they can be put on. A weather proof stick like the standing torch would be ideal.
