Bloody raids
Urgh, why do raids always seem to happen at the end of the day, just before I'm about to quit the game and most of my bonuses and supplies are a little low. Most annoying was I suffered my first Horde Attacking and whilst held them off ok my base defences got wrecked and the sodding shamn blasted a couple of spells into my warehouse, exploding about 8 chests full of items. Clearing that mess up is being a total pain in the ....

Dont have defenses.
I took the hint early on, and have a ridge of "ground" deformed up into a wall all around my entire base. It's the base layer of the terrain, there's nothing under it in the game, and it's indestructible. It makes it a little annoying to get in and out (I have to "run" up a sheer wall), but enemies can't get inside at all.
This is what I've been using ever since three trolls nearly destroyed my first big house. I found out the hard way that trolls will actually spawn in water, and simply walk through it. I built on a peninsula with water on three sides, and just assumed that meant attacks would only come from the land side. Nope.
The only raid that is slight annoying is the one with ice drake/wyverns, since they can fly. But there usually aren't a lot of them
A bit of advice: make what I call a "battle box". Stock it with extra arrows, extra weapons, Food, drink, meds. Just get disciplined about not borrowing out of it. Knowing you have backup supplies sitting there whenever you need them makes those things easier.

I had the opposite. Two days in a row and “The forest is moving” is the text that greeted me within seconds of waking up for the day.
First day I was running a lot and sniping who I could (leather armor).
Joke was on them on day 2 as I finally managed to get full bronze and a bronze sword before that second raid. Massacred all of them.

A lot of people never learned those concepts. So, the human tendency for apophenia or patternicity takes over. <shrug> Why do so many people fail to understand the concept of an RNG game, or confirmation bias? The game is not plotting against us. Sheesh. Stuff happens.
Right you are.

I posted a discussion where 2 raids happened at once and killed all of our wolves. I feel you.

Becasue most events only occur when the player is at their base, which is at the end of the day.

No need to destroy the moat bridge behind you. Mobs can't navigate balance beams, but you can. They might wreck them occasionally, but they're easy to put back.
But yeah, just log out for a bit and handle the mess after you're rested.

Because this game has a mind of its own it has decided to **** with us. Not kidding, i'm right there with; Wanna go sailing, wind is directly against you. Wanna start woodcutting, enjoy those ****ing GREYDWARVES TOSSIING THEIR MOTHER****ING STONES!
Never, NEVER go afk in this game. The last time, and i mean THE LAST TIME i went afk, my base lost an entire wall along with 8 full chests(coincidence?) and a whole wall. If you so much as have to take a brief break to "shake hands with the president", log out.
Also, even though it was infuriating the damage that was done was, ultimately, no big deal at all to repair. If something like this ever happens again, i STRONGLY suggest logging out immediately. Take a break do whatever to de-compress and when you feel like logging back in, think of what steps to take in order to fix things.

Something that will help is using your pick to dig a moat around your base. Alternatively, you can use the hoe to build up a dirt wall around your base as well. In my case I do both. The enemies have a difficult time traversing steep grades. A little experimentation, and you will no doubt bolster your defenses. If you make your moats wide enough, you'll even pretty much cancel out the worry of ranged attackers. You can even build a wooden bridge to get across which you can break down when you need to afk.
At my main base, Dangerfjord, I used a hill in a small slice of meadow surrounded by black forests that also came down to the water. I cut into the hill for about half of my base and raised earth for the other half towards the water. Then, I built two long earth jetties out into the water so I could tuck a boat in 'mostly' safety. There is still enough of an earth bank in my harbor, where if enemies path out through the water, they still cannot get up. On the one side of my base it is a sheer cliff, and on the other, I built a labyrinth of raised earth that I put core wood poles across to slow trolls down. The labyrinth is exactly wide enough for a cart. To date, in almost 700 hours of playing, the only creatures that have made it into my base are oozes, and drakes. I've only seen those two particular raids a couple times. Most often I get Skeleton Surprise, Trolls, or Surtlings. No troll has ever seen the inside of my base, and the skelly surprise and surtling invasions are barely more than an inconvenience.
Another base I built I raised earth in a square shape as high as I could, leaving a gap in one face only wide enough for a single door, then built the base on top of that.
I cannot overstate how crucial the pick and the hoe are in this game. I cannot post screenshots here, but I'm sure you can find examples online. Good hunting!

Why do so many people fail to understand the concept of an RNG game, or confirmation bias? The game is not plotting against us. Sheesh. Stuff happens.
It seems to me that somebody needs to make sure their bases are adequately defended with moats. If you are inside such a base, you can definitely go AFK, and if an event happens, you only loose the opportunity of scoring some loot.
Which isn't to say that a pause feature wouldn't be handy.
Raids happen on a randomly determined schedule. The game cannot possibly know when you are about to quit. If your base isn't well-defended, then you loose the chests that you loose. IRL, it would be the full chests that got carted-off. If the game simulates that so much the better.
If Greydwarfs are your pet peeve, they are your pet peeve. They are not an objective fault of the game even if you YELL.
