You can usually add ppl as admins too, so they can do that for you if you cant get on. mine is great, costs me 10 a month and i have nearly 900 hours in the game. It auto saves for me every 20 mins, so you need to be aware of the last time it saves, in case you log out and it "forgets something" that you build. (That was a pain in the arse to figure out but now we watch for "world save" we havent had the issue)
I don't want to spend $10 a month tbh, it's just the 3 of us and if I really wanted to I could host a dedicated server myself for nothing if I mess with port forwarding.

If I send my friend these two files, will he be able to start the world we have been playing on without issues?

He should, by copying the files into his respective folder. It is just a copy though, and you would have to keep trading it back and forth or whatever.

You can setup a dedicated server on your own network if you don’t want to pay. Although it’s a lot easier to just use a managed service.

There is a dedicated server.

Yes, you can copy worlds. They are located in:
C:\Users\Username\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\Worlds

There is a .db and .fwl file for each world. You can also use this to copy a local world to a dedicated server.
