Maybe I to had precise but I'm running the game at 50 fps all the time but it goes from 50 to 2 fps every minute ( in average )

no need to be condescending but ok, it was just to show that I can run other game well

having a simlilar issue. ryzen 5 gtx 1650 (laptop as well) most of the game runs great, perfect 60 fps, but after a few minutes of gameplay about every 30 to 45 seconds ill get 5-10 seconds of 2 fps. makes it unplayable.

I can play MHW with 140 FPS on high settings with 1080p.
However this game, in the last 2 updates (starting from the one with the Unity engine upgrade) the FPS has become significantly less. Dropped all the way down to 30 FPS.
Windowed / Fullscreen, changing the resolution, checking / unchecking all graphic options basically doesn't affect the FPS at all. I think it's the CPU that is being the bottleneck.
After last update I couldn't even run the game in Windowed mode anymore, constant 20 FPS + stuttering.

Hello there, I think I saw all video about improving FPS issues :

- add lines in boot.config
- launch option full screen
- put the high priority in task manager
- set all the options to max performance etc ...
- I put the game in ultra low even the resolution
- using vulkan

But I still have every minutes( it depends when i discover new lands it is more frequent ), 5 or 10 seconds of ultra low fps ( maybe 2 fps )

I used HWM monitor and my CPU temperature is around 100°C in Valheim and 92 °C (average) in other games. According to my Laptop manufacturer ( ASUS ) Mys cpu Max Temp acceptable is around 105 °C

Please is anyone there in the same situation as me ?

Well your deffinitely throttling at that temperature. That is incredibly hot for sustained temps. You may have even done damage if you have been playing for extended periods over months over 90C on the cpu. That acceptable max temp is the temp your system shuts down at to prevent catastrophic failure. Keep in mind at 100C your at boiling point and many soft solders can melt or turn to dust at such a sustained temp, Your entire system is feeling the heat albeit lower then the core your still pushing into the range low grade solder dies. If your system is Dust caked this can also literally burn causing permanent damage to components.

Try downloading Ryzen controller and setting your max cpu temp, Your spikes of low fps are most likely your system literally throttling down to the lowest core frequency in an attempt to not hit 105c, It's like downshifting in a manual transmission, you slow down fast and it isn't always graceful . Set the temp max and your system will throttle to prevent hitting the point where it will throttle down to the lowest frequency all of a sudden.

Consider replacing the thermal paste even if it was done well it has degraded at those temps, don't know exactly which model you have but those Asus laptops have ♥♥♥♥♥ cooling. The cpu and gpu share a heatpipe for example. Try lifting the back of the laptop and inch or two to increase ventilation. Doing so cuts 10 celsius off my cpu.

It seems Valheim is poorly optimized for AMD , unfortunately this is becoming more common with non console ported games in EA. Those command lines you added are designed for Directx. In my testing running them with vulkan enabled caused heat spikes. Vulkan already does what those commands do. The launch command for true fullscren on valheim is -window-mode exclusive alt+enter twice once entering game if still in borderless window. You can easily tell because if you alt tab full screen with minimize. Keep in mind this is useless for Vulkan as Vulkan runs in borderless window with full screen emulation.

If you feel this is false in anyway i urge you to contact Asus and have them clarify that running your system sustained 90c+ is bad for it, 100+ is absolutely crazy to even attempt.

Thx for the answer, I agree with u about the temp and that's why I don't understand why this game make my cpu go this hot :/

I did test with other games again without running valheim for 4 hours and The CPU is going around 82 °C only

But What's strange is that my pc is not even Hot ... I mean for 105°C it should be really hot but I don't feel any difference and the the fan isn't even running faster :o

Your fans should sound like a jet engine at that temperature. You may need to check that. When turn my fans to max it sounds like i'm in a hangar. If your fans are not hitting at least 4k RP when it gets that hot something is wrong. find your fan controller and make sure its working right. My cpu fans hit 5000 rpm on max for cpu and 5700 for GPU. On auto they never have toraise above 4kish however. If you fans are silent they are most likely running in the 2000 RPM range which is what mine are now typing this and nothing else. You should have a TUF gaming console which lets you control fan speeds. Make sure its set to Auto and watch to see what the RPM is with valheim open. If rpm does not hit 4k try turning it to max and see what happens.

GTX 1650TI Never go's above 64c
FPS locked to 60 never drop below except in heavy campfire areas.
10C higher before lifting the back of my laptop. Valheim does run hot but nothing unique for un optomized game with massive calculations required.

Also as a side point. Make sure you set your windows Graphics powerplan in the display settings for valheim to run on the Nvdia GPU as well as add valheim into the control panel for nvdia and set it to use the Nvdia GPU. Otherwise Valheim may try to use the integrated graphics, which would result in FPS like this and increased heat on the cpu

Make sure you add valheim in Nvdia control panel as well, it wont automatically and it will fail to receive the controls setup. Check your fan speed.

My guy, games don't control temperatures, the amount of stress on your hardware does. Either limit the power draw to your CPU, force it to not overclock or get better cooling.
