Game files backups
Recently, there have been questions about backing up the game files. The following lines maybe help:
- if you need to undo any changes in the world, back up your files [C: \ Users \ (your profile name) \ AppData \ LocalLow \ IronGate \ Valheim \ worlds \ (your world name)] - be careful, there are 2 files with the same name and a different extension (.fwl and .db) - these are the current files and both are needed. Then there are the same files with a second extension (.old) - these are files before the current game starts.
- If you need to undo character changes (usually death and equipment loss), back up the file [C: \ Users \ (your profile name) \ AppData \ LocalLow \ IronGate \ Valheim \ characters \ (your character name)]. There are also two files - one with a suffix (.fch) - this is the current state of the character. In that with the suffix (.old) is the state of the character before the current start of the game.
Caution - the AppData folder is usually marked as "hidden" - therefore it is necessary to activate the "show hidden files" option in the folder settings.

I suppose it depends on the active "Steam cloud". I recommend to switch it "off" if you don't play on more then 1 PC.
I had disastrous results playing on 2 computers with Steam Cloud enabled. It was really broken for a while there. Now if I am going to be changing machines, I manually copy the the files listed in the OP to a flash drive, and replace the ones on the second machine before I start.
I'd also add that if you're going to backup/copy those files, you should completely exit Steam before you do so. I think (but am not sure) that those files might not get written until you're exiting, much the same way the Cloud would wait until you exit to sync the files.

Yes you're right. If you have Steam Cloud enabled, syncing is done when you end the game. That's why it's really better to turn cloud off and as you write - if you're playing on another PC, carry the map and character files in your pocket on USB storage (figuratively speaking) :-)

Let me add one point I realized about world file backup.
When you restore the backup file. Before touching local files,
Make sure to start the game first, remove the current world from the world selection menu.
If you just remove local world files and put backup files, game will load with broken world.
(In my case, many buildings I created were gone)
not sure but, It seems that game is unnecessarily communicating with servers about these files.

I just do daily backups of the entire Valheim folder in AppData. Highly recommended to do.
