World Migration with new update?
So, question to devs here: would it be possible to migrate/recalculate world (or at least unexplored parts) with new update?
I got invested some amount of time in my build and wouldn't want to wipe it, if possible, when Mistland update comes.

This is going to be interesting, since my second character built his main base right next to the boss stones. I mean, there's plenty of room left, but those stones will probably creep pretty close to my stakewall. :D

The Boss stones may, as others say, be an exception and nothing is certain. But I am following and have successfully used the mod: Upgrade_World by JereKuusela.
As it does exactly what the OP is asking (so far) then can be uninstalled with its changes remaining.
Yes it by default allows for builds on areas that with new updates that have been built on.
Obviously a full biome upgrade will be a major test of any Mod like this so keep exploration (or even close journeys near) Mistlands to a minimum to avoid what issues you can.

I believe one of the devs has said on Discord that people don't need to worry about the boss stones, they will update. (Don't hold me to this, though)

I always assumed that the no build zone around the boss stones was to keep the area clear for updates. They should be able to swap those out without disturbing anyone's builds, unless people modded around that.

Hey there,
please give the pinned FAQ post a look:

Also, you can explore new content / new maps with your existing character and bring new items back to your old world in your inventory. Recipe unlocks are tied to your character and have so far come over seamlessly to old worlds. IGS doesn't give any guarantees that legacy worlds will stay compatible with future updates, but so far it's looking good.
Have a good day!

You should also remember that even parts that do not show up in your map yet, but you have been close to count as explored.
So, yes, you should be careful where you venture to if you want to keep this world.
Alternatively, just create a new world with the same seed when the update hits, so you know your way around, and just build a small base from where you can explore and keep your big base on the old map for relaxing.

The starting area /head shrine probably won't update to account for a Mistlands boss, so I would plan on starting a new world either way.

Damn, you're right... so no point continuing my build then, unless I find a way to import part of the old world to the new one. The starting area /head shrine probably won't update to account for a Mistlands boss, so I would plan on starting a new world either way.

AFAIK unexplored parts should get updated. It's the ones you've already went to and that have been generated already that won't change.
