ideally i wouldnt destroy my ship because i want the game to be reallistic but if its that easy to get destroyed then i would do it myself

After unlocking the longship I break down my karve and keep it in a labeled box. When I need to use it I can take all the parts out of the box, go through a portal, and build the karve on site. Then when I'm done with it I break it down again and put it back in the box. You get 100% of your materials back. It works best if you stand at the mast when attacking it, as that way the nails go right into your inventory without having a chance to drop into the water.

My advise is to push the boat away from the shore and your dock, just keep the boat away from things that it can smash on...

I found that my boats stay afloat a lot more by a simple push from shore and dock side collision damage.

Mobs can swim out and break it, look for the nails on the ocean floor.

If its in deep water, you might not see the nails. Was there any floating wood? That would be where the ship was. Those necks destroy Karves in no time. Also, when stuff breaks, it often doesn't have 100% material. A cart takes 10 nails to build, but when mine has broken, only 3 nails drop.

Boars will attack it also I have heard. But I have seen necks attacking them most often.

A couple options to prevent this are:

1: Build stake fence all around it. I dig a channel so I can bring the boat in closer and fence it off. I even fence off the exit. Then break that fence when I leave with the boat.

2: Box it up when not in use.

3: Leave it out in deep water. Critters do swim, but only seem to go so far to a stationary item. Then you can swim out to it.

4: Build an immune harbor with earth walls out to the boat and deep enough that trolls won't go. Then only Drakes could reach it, and blobs I guess.

5: Carpet build workbenches all around so nothing spawns. Could get a raid there then, so not a solution really.

6: I got nothing. Its late here and calling it a day.

I came across that a couple of times that i always salvage my ship when i take off for the night. it's not pleasant to come in the morning seeing your ship gone and all the materials washed away.

if i get it to beach and destroy it my delf i get all the materials back? swimming is risky i think because of drawning and building dock etc is work only in base, not when i m going to new island...

I usually find a shallow enough spot that I can easily pick the materials up.

Just turn the cheats on and make a new boat for free,then turn them off,problem solved

Yes, you'll get 100% of the materials back. You'll need to use a weapon though, as boats cannot be destroyed with the hammer.
