Random items destroyed

Alright, I've been playing this for a while and never had this happen. I'm pretty sure I password protected my server and never saw anyone else. I was expanding my base, not vertical not onto the old structure but over a bridge I had made. Using nothing but stone, I go to get more stone from my mostly wood base with a few stone supports to find parts of the stone destroyed several chests destroyed. Work benches and forges destroyed. Almost like someone ran around with a hammer popping them.

There were no monsters inside the base, it's surrounded by a deep moat filled with spikes, then has a stone wall around it with multiple gates. Plus if it were a monster why would it be gone? I'm so close I'm in visual range of the place where things were destroyed.

So I'm wondering, is there an item limit or something and I exceeded the limitation without realizing it? I haven't even explored the full map, a lot of it but not the entire world.

There's no build limits that I can think of that would result in random destruction.

It's possible that you reached the limits of the structure that you built and it just took time to cave in. If you have items like chests or benches on those parts of the structure that fall apart, they will fall apart too.

The only other thing I can think of is that you missed a raid event of some description, but if that had happened, it stays active until you return to the place it started so you would have known.

Wasn't an attack event I was still in the same area only about 3 long boats distance away from the destroyed chests benches and pillars. It could have been some form of random monster spawn most everything destroyed was on the ground. but the strange thing about that is my castle is off the ground and I had a few stone floors destroyed inside the castle on raised ground right by my large fire pit. And the door was shut. My first thought was every time I placed a new stone structure things were destroying themselves. Then I wondered if I had forgot my password and a new player was running around using a hammer to pop random things but none of the items that were in the chests were missing. And if it was a player they could have griefed me worse by destroying my smelter or portals. They would have had to use and why not destroy things on their way? They would have to travel through 2 portals going through 2 other bases to get to the 1 they attacked.

It's just really random except for a few things in the same area all at ground level. But the few things inside the castle that were snapped to raised ground and were stone perplex me.

That's not 100% accurate. I had a main base up on a hill and a smaller port base a short distance away. The port was completely surrounded by an earthen wall so there was nothing the trolls could destroy there and eventually the troll event spawned while I was there and I just sprinted away and left it go thinking it would just stay there and I could do other base building things without another one spawning.

It worked great but after 3 game days the event ended on its own even though I had stayed on the other side of that island the entire time.

how many others have access to your server... thats my First best guess.. Reasoning: if you hadnt changed the original building then it shouldnt have broken ie red roof wall breaks.. Secondly: Also if there was no troll event is your original building mob proof? try this grab the hoe select raise ground and run around inside base you will soon see areas that workbench is missing and mobs can spawn in these spots.

Hitting F2 will show if anyone else is in your world if you suspect someone “sneaked” on.

Recheck your server settings. I’ve accidentally turned off password required before when changing settings.

Always good to change your password too if you suspect someone got on.

Lack of structural support, maybe?
If you place an item there, will it be glowing red? Removing supports from under objects might've triggered stability recalculation, thus destroying your objects.

It's happened to me. Specifically, cauldrons and campfires suddenly exploding for no good reason. And once, the entire game went graphically insane with massive distortions in the ground before it crashed. Just a rare glitch, I think.

If you stand in a campfire with troll armor or better, the campfire will break. If you accidentally left click on the cauldron instead of pressing "E", the cauldron will break.

That may have been the case with the campfire, but the cauldron cooked off without me doing anything to it. I wasn't even very close. But it only happened once; glitch is glitch.

Did you get the "Ground is Shaking" event? That spawns trolls near one of your workbenches.

Two things to think about.

First is workbench coverage.
Are you 100% certain there are no gaps where mobs could spawn inside? For example they could spawn inside when you get close and destroy things then despawn if you get further away... then you come back to find broken stuff and no mobs.

Second is raised ground.
When you manipulate the ground there can be issues.
Especially if on an incline but raised ground can suddenly drop out in spots then pop back up. I tend to work with terrain rather than modify it too much personally.
Are the broken things in places they are being supported by raised ground?

You can also try to run the game not as a server? Are you hosting it your machine or is it dedicated on a rental or something?
