I think it's a bug (or feature), that texture is random on render rather than remembered for your particular hen(s).

Heh.. i noticed this too. My house hen is a shape shifter.

Chickens, in real life, are 7 dimensional beings. What we view as a whole chicken is actually a smaller appendage of the whole being. When you cut the head off of a chicken and it still moves around for several seconds, this is basically like cutting your fingernails, the clipping falls and briefly bounces off the surface.
