it spends ages updating your worlds files.. this advice above is true as!! (also might want to remove mods first till vanilla works then reinstall if that floats your boat)

Recent update and not sure if mods are updated. I don't use any myself.

Much has changed in game since then with saves etc so the mods are probably way out of date.

For a "clean" install...
Uninstall mods and mod manager
Uninstall game
Delete install folder manually = this is the only way to remove corrupted/old/mod files totally.
Reinstall game

Check with new character and world. Some mods that give extra space for example can make you lose stuff if you start the save with no mods.

Once you verify game works then add the mods you may want or need for your old saves... again here... not sure if mods are up to date with game,

There is an option in game properties in the beta tab to select the last build to match older mods. This probably wouldn't help since your game is so out of date to start with. But may allow you to get mods working if they have not caught up since the update this week.

Also allow time for game to start an old save it may need to convert the file and it can take a while to load up.

You also haven't played since Jan and the game now crashes when you try to load in? You can right click the game in the library and verify files. If that doesn't work , uninstall and reinstall. If that doesn't work post in the technical issues forum

Just installed the game again, Windows 11. Fresh install, Crashes at loading.

The first load is building the world, Windows assumes the game froze because its "unresponsive" but its still going. The slower your CPU the longer it takes. A rig that barely meets minimum requirements literally takes like 5+ minutes to load the first time.

What happened to the game? It's been updated many many times, and apparently some of your mods have not caught up.

Sometimes simply turning them off will not fix a comparability issue. Sometimes you have to completely untangle them from the game files.

There are many mods , and there are many people that enjoy using them. That said they are not officially supported at this time.

Works fine for me, but I vanilla. Mods made the game TOO easy to me.
