Lazy Chicken Farmer Warning

Please keep in mind, that if you are a successful, but lazy chicken farmer, that you will get laggy. My local coop went bonkers with hundreds of hens and my session got very laggy. Don't be like me. Harvest those hens!

Game considers synchronizing the chicken positions to be of utmost importance.

I have a two story chicken "barn" with the top story well above the main floor. At the top are pairs of chickens crammed into little spots with piles of seeds. They drop eggs like mad! I use Hanging Braziers to keep the bottom floor warn and the chicken count had gotten completely out of hand whilst I was fighting through some Infested Mines.

On a good note though, kicking chickens will kill two at once if you turn on friendly fire and my "Fists" skill is now way up! (No longer defenseless while swimming!)

I think I found your solution. Just don't do that! :-)

Seriously, you (I?) need at most one chicken a day, so my tiny basement chicken farm is easily enough for a 3 weeks. Actually, it's probably more than that, since I have other food sources like seeker meat that build up and I have to mix that into my diet, so I probably have chicken once every other day or so.

I only have a 4x6 coop, so max hens is limited to 11-12.
You could also delete the fire in order that the eggs do not hatch.
