Empty Mistlands in my Seed
I just found some map areas which are already labeled Mistlands, but it is just barren, nothing in it. Does that mean that my seed will update with the full Mistland experience once it gets out?

We've had enough cases where other users can jump in and tell others to check likely suspects first, so they maybe don't have to nuke their entire installation. The mod team helps as best we can, but we are volunteers and not full-time tech support.
Then the devs browse the forums and leave answers for the maybe arcaner cases. The troubleshooting sections on Discord are also helpful, a lot of the official helpers there have a background in IT. That plus the collective knowledge of the Discord community usually means that even with mod issues, someone knows something (e.g. when it's a configuration issue, or mods a / b / c are known to not play nice with each other).
The official Valheim bugtracker is less for getting personal support (and shouldn't be used with mod issues), but it ultimately helps everyone when problems are described & upvoted there:

I've never understood the point of this. I don't ever see anything beyond "it's because you're using mods, get rid of them and re-install and then post if you still have a problem." If you need technical support, please always include a full list of active AND prior mods, since that can influence the game's behaviour with regard to bugs.
Is there somewhere people post where "technical support" actually helps them?
If so, could you post a link?

Hey there,
please remember that as of now modding is not officially supported. It's done at your own risk, there are no guarantees for future compatibility. Please keep backups of your save files before you start modding. If you need technical support, please always include a full list of active AND prior mods, since that can influence the game's behaviour with regard to bugs.
Have a good day!

That said, Upgrade World is about the safest mod possible because you don't need to keep it installed. Just run the new version for the updated biome one time, then you can delete it and all associated modding files and return to the vanilla game. Hell if you know someone who's into modding you could just send your save to them for an upgrade and never modify a thing at your end.

The old mistlands placeholder skulls and cobwebs are an interesting question actually, do they still exist in the game code? Can they still be spawned as decorations via command line?

I really liked the cobweb look. It would be nice if they could re-introduce it somewhere. With spiders of course!

IG removed the terrain generating code for the Mistlands awhile back. The devs decided to start over and completely redo the whole concept of the Mistalnds. Thus all teh webing, trees, and various skulls litering the ground are gone in newly generated maps.

you can find it here Hmm. I would like to know about this mod, it would definitely help me and my friend on our server
https://valheim.thunderstore.io/package/JereKuusela/Upgrade_World/
I've used it in single player mode and it worked exactly as described. I plan on using it again once Mistlands goes live.
For your server world you might need to start the world in a local client as a solo player and use the mod then transfer the updated world back to your server. The README that comes with the mod should have more details. I didn't really read much past teh basic setup and use.
Since the Upgrade mod need the maps co-ordinates to work if you want to protect more than a default area around the player this second mod will help, it adds the x,y co-ordinates to the HUD right under the mini map for reference.
https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/907
The Upgrade Worlds mod will always protect by default the area within 200 meters of the player when you invoke the mod in the BepInEX console so if you only want to protect your base and farm you might not even need to set up the config. (the radius of a workbench is 20 meters so you can use that as a reference.)
It will reset everything to the original "unexplored" state, anything you build or pits you dug will be gone. Be sure to make a back up of your world before using the mod. I didn't have problems with it but always better to be safe and its handy in case you forget to protect something.
Good luck o7

Mistlands used to have some spooky assets in it but those assets were removed so now it's what you've found.

It's the Upgrade World mod. They're pretty good at adding new presets whenever things are added to worldgen.

It will not update to the full version upon release unless they change something in process. When you explore 500m around you is generated, so the previously discovered biomes will not repopulate.
However, there is a mod, that will repopulate. But I do not know what it is.
Don't worry, there is a lot of other Mistlands for you to discover yet.
