Thanks vilem and the other helpful people here Yea I am scared to ask advice here any longer as obviously we all have to KNOW the stuff otherwise we are stupid or something. BTW I speak, read, write theree languages fluently incl shorthand, I have been Financial Controller in a world wide company for the whole of Australia. So I ask questions in a computer game and get insulted for it Sad but true.
btw I tried to build the workbench somewhere else and it never worked, a friend here said maybe there is something not up to date with my computer. But anyway Maybe I should really give up on this game! I don't know why people take such fun in being rude, if they want to be nasty why even reply to a question? Or do computer people playing this game are all Einsteins. I raised two kids from months old as a single parent with no help from nobody as did not get anything from the father of the kids because he was always broke My millionaire father disowned me for marrying that looser. I have lived in District 6 in Cape Town which was at that time about the worst and most dangerous. I got through rapes and poverty and always did best for my kids. My scepticism comes from something you wrote in earlier threads where you stated that you‘ve played Valheim „years ago“ and now wanted to come back to it. Valheim is just over a year old, so that colored my view about you.

Um, suppose you want to fly. It sounds like you've got it all working except for the last command. Before you hit 'z' you have to ESC out of the console.

Everything has an effective range.. workbench too just having one doesnt help when you are 50 paces away..

You can build an infinite number of workbenches all over the world where ever you need them as long as you have the required amount of wood and the hammer to do so. No need to use debugmode at all for this, unless you're strictly intending to do a creative/building mode.

If you have console enabled (and you have), then at first put >devcommands< in it and then put >debugmode< command (both without brackets). When debugmode is active, you can use >z< button in game - not in console (on the left up corner of screen you see "debug fly: true" or "debug fly:flase" after each hit of z button) and >b< button in game - not in console ("no placement cost:true" or "no placement cost:flase" on the left up corner) and workbench is not needed in this case. If you have flying mode active, with >space< button you fly up, with >ctrl< button you fly down. You can use e.g. >spawn< command for items. Then you also can put >god< command or >ghost< command (or both - also without brackets)... It must work ...

Yes. It is impossible to build a wall without a workbench. You can have as many benches as you like, and they only cost 10 wood that you can get back once done with it.
I do not know about cheating up a wall without one. It probably works, but that is more effort than just doing it the right way.

You do realize that you can build a workbench anywhere, as long as you have 10 wood, right? Well, you might need a hoe to level out the ground, but workbenches can go anywhere except inside dungeons.

I'm really getting the impression that you're somehow completely lost on how this game works. And I mean completely.

Why do you not build just another workbench? Why would you want to cheat?

Or am I falling for a really elaborate troll here?

Right-click Valheim in your Steam library
Select Properties
In the General tab, look for the Launch Options field
In it, type -console
Close the General tab
Once in the game, to activate cheats, open the console by pressing F5. Pressing F5 will close it again as well.

Type devcommands and press enter (previously, the command was 'imacheater' but that has changed). Then you'll be able to use the following cheats in singleplayer mode. They won't work on a multiplayer server.

Also in singleplayer, you can enter debug mode to access a few more cheats and what is essentially a creative mode, where you can build without a workbench or resources.

debugmode - Enters creative mode.
