These new difficulty sliders.... pro or con ?
I'm literally of the opinion that the game is just right as it is. Maybe it's a case of coming to love what I got used to. Whenever you move to a new biome you get your teeth kicked in until you learn how to cope and up your gear level. I've done the mine-cart-sail operation enough times to know that it cuts into time I'd rather be spending on other things (mostly building, renovating and improving my base). So I use a different realm now for my ore transport. For everything else I scoot thru a portal. No dev commands or mods, just using the game mechanics given to me. I'm ok with the game forcing me to do this in order to avoid spending literally hours of my real-life time pulling a cart and then sailing. So if in order to transport ore thru a portal the game will also make the mobs easier or less dangerous, then frankly I'm not interested. I want to get punished if I, say, get careless running around the swamp. This is what this game is. It punishes stupidity.
While I fully appreciate the desire of others for 'creative' mode making their mammoth building projects easier, I strip mined and de-forested huge swaths of once picturesque meadow in order to make my own palatial estate. I'm still pushing my 8m high terrace out into the sea in order to make more room for crops safe from trolls. I think the time put in doing the grunt work made me appreciate the end result more. Having to build temporary platforms to get up to the top of my high roof in order to work on it ? All fair. Getting too close to my chimney and dying of carbon monoxide poisoning, then falling off my own damn roof while trying to retrieve my stuff ? That's fair - that's on me. I have no interest in flying.
Interested in hearing how others are perceiving these upcoming additions to the game.

Con.
When a game does this, its always starts the downward spiral.
Valheim is a survival game, and difficult at times. Its supposed to test you.
Now theres no test.
IMHO Its ruined the game.

Options are good. The things that people love currently are still there, unchanged (most likely). The things that some people want changed are now offered for their preference.
I see no downside.

I guess as long as I'll have the option to keep things precisely as they are........ 'cuz quite frankly I'm having the time of my life playing it. This is one of those rare masterpieces like TW3 and Skyrim that only comes along every so often.

It ruins nothing. The details shown indicates that the default difficulty is the normal mode.
So you basically do not have to touch it.
But it gives other people options, because not everyone wants to play it the same way. Which is OK. It is their choice.

Anyone bothered by the adding of difficulty sliders cares way too much about how other people play games. Play it on default difficulty and mind your own business.

Hear, hear! Anyone bothered by the adding of difficulty sliders cares way too much about how other people play games. Play it on default difficulty and mind your own business.
Or for those worried that sliders would make the game too easy, well, there's sliders and other options to make the game even harder, so you can stroke that ego even harder than ever before!

The vid I saw seemed to show casual, easy, hard, nightmare and 'hammer' modes. I didn't see 'normal' - maybe I watched it too fast or missed it. My only concern is that I get to change..... nothing.
I personally don't give a sh*t how others play. To each his own. I play solo so I just follow the rules I set down for myself. You do you.
Looks like most people are definitely 'pro'.

Not sure why some people are pushing back against this lol. If you want to leave the game as is, then you can ignore the settings. If you want to bump up the difficulty, then you now get that option too.
Anybody like me who is a little more casual can now enjoy the game more.
It’s a win win situation lol.

This is basically my opinion about it. I truly don't understand the mindset that some people seem to have where if it is allowed to be easy for others then the challenge is invalidated for them somehow. It doesn't make any logical sense to me. As long as the difficulty is still there, then the experience is exactly the same if you want it to be. In fact, part of what the sliders are supposed to accomplish is to make the game even harder!
Now that said, someone in another thread mentioned that it could effect the communitys sense of comraderie and that I can understand as a negative side effect. I don't think it outweighs the positives, but its a factor.

While there was no button to specifically choose "normal", at the beginning of the video I saw, normal was the default on all of the sliders, and none of the additional options available were selected. Alrighty then. Non-issue. Looks like I mis-interpreted that quick vid.
Heh.... it might not even happen. Or they might change everything.

It has a "reset to normal" button under the different types of difficulty type buttons.

Oh wow, I'm not sure how I missed that. That's some omega-level blindness from me. It has a "reset to normal" button under the different types of difficulty type buttons.

Nice to have some options. I am more interested in the mechanics of structures being stronger, to last through a siege event a bit longer. I know there are tools for this, but I don't like my walls vanilla. There seems to have to be a happy medium.
I guess this is more of an AI mechanic however, I can just build a ditch/moat, and they can't do ♥♥♥♥ to walls. Flying mobs... different story, which is why placing turrets inside a compound is better.
Anyways, game still in development, everyone saying game "ruined" has no concept of "in development", honestly they should just do away with early access all together, as people are too stupid to understand what it means.
