Dark Fog?

I am not sure if this is an intended thing but every now and then i get thick plooms of Dark fog that make it 90% impossible to navigate and they last easily a few minutes.
A problem especially if being persued by enemies because even their eyes don't shine through this stuff.
I've posted this here because i have a feeling it isn't a bug and this isn't a suggestion, but a request. can we dial the Dark Fog down from 11 plllease? it adds nothing to atmosphere other than frustration as it's impossible to navigate.

This has happened a few times to me also, I do not use vulkan. It has happened near swamp and black forest, there was no mistlands near it when it happened. I believe it's an intended game mechanic but do not know why because you literllay have to either stop till it goes away or paddle and watch the map for land

Have to say I've never come across this personally. It does seem very much like a bug, or possibly some sort of rendering problem where light effects are left unrendered for some reason.
Does it happen on both vulkan and dx rendering?

I think it's partly intentional, partly a bug on the lighting engine?
is it SUPER dark when you look in one direction, but fine if you look in the other direction?
as that's what I get, and only when looking at the sun JUST as it is setting or rising.
...or am i looking away from the moon just as it is setting or rising...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
but, yeh "me too" basically

The picture certainly doesn't do it justice as that black fog is a moving volume i think. when i turn around (aiming the opposite direction to the shot) its equally dark yet if i look side to side its possible to navigate.
Its probably one of the few things about this game i am kinda like "wtf m8" at.
especially because it blacked out a greydwarf on the right of the picture.
you literally can't see it and i kinda feel that's a bit of a problem no matter how short this lasts.
I have noticed they use this same effect for when Odin shows up too, it really works for that particular application. freaked me out in a good way hahaha

I never had such a black fog, where you even cannot see the glowing eyes.
Either this was introduced recently, or it is a bug and therefore belongs in the bug-forum.

It only happens in the dead of night and its kind of sporadic, not predictable.
I've had this happen ever since i bought the game a month or so ago.
Going to jump back onto my server tomorrow and see if i can recreate it and get it on video this time. Because if it is indeed a bug i will move this over to the bugs.
But as i said in the post above yours i've seen this effect used when Odin shows up and it is quite possible they use the dark fog to add depth to the regular fog and the regular stuff sometimes gets clipped? idk lol

I have about 300 hours in the game and have never seen such a thing, good luck sorting a source or reason for it.

There are some times, when it gets REALLY dark. But you will ever see the glowing things. I had such a nightfall while a Serpent was with me and everything was pitch black but he was glowing. The same with the glowing eyes.

Yeah some how those glows aren't penetrating this fog.
I plan on getting a video of this when i jump on tomorrow and hopefully re-create it.
More and more seeming like a bug tbh.
