I realized. After I found out about the console in skyrim it completely killed the game for me so I try to stay as vanilla as possible but sometimes I'll be running around here thinking if I am just wasting my time by being a noob instead of knowing exactly where to look.

The map is randomly generated, unless you are using a custom seed. So everyone is lost when they start a new game.

Also, being a noob is the fun part. Exploring and finding stuff is what gives this game life.

yup, but then my inventory gets full so i have to decide what to drop and what to take back to base and get stuck in this loop of finding swamp or finding loot

If you are to the point of looking for a swamp you should have portals and not have to worry about that. Always carry one so you can drop it and dump stuff back at base.

You don't have to pick up every shiny object you see on the ground you know.

Personally I'd recommend just having tasty mead on you. Poison isn't a factor as long as you stay out of the water while leeches are around.

Though you will definitely need poison resist to fight bonemass.

Additionally, every swamp will rain regardless of weather conditions outside the biome. If you're planning on staying there for long periods of time, I recommend making yourself some poison resistance mead. A lot of the enemies in the swamp can poison you, be careful!

They seem to be in some kind of order, meadows black forrest ,swamp, planes,mountains in the middle. surrounded by the ocean.
Start sailing and uncover your map hug the coastline.

Also when you get near one all the light fades from the sky, even in clear midday sunlight. There will be wandering skeletons and draugr, and some of the trees have glowing green growths. (Yes, you'll be wanting those.)

swamps will either be on your first island or another island close by. Scout around the perimeter of your first island to see what you can find/spot. They are always on water.
Before you see the trees you can see the terrain. Swamps are very flat. If you see a really flat area that is probably a swamp and you will see trees populate as you get closer.

Go ashore in a safe biome and work the edges and scout out some resources.

You can begin to find swamps 2km from world center. Whether you can walk or need to sail depends on your world seed. If you have a long starting island, you may find a swamp without having to sail.

If you see big, gnarled, scary looking leafless trees in the distance, that's a swamp. Probably the best indication. They usually are not close to the initial spawn so you may need to sail quite a bit.
