I've wasted countless hours on early access games that were just not ready and on ones that just sat in early access in a never-ending purgatory and ended up never fully coming to fulfillment. ....and there is nothing wrong with console gaming. I also play a PS5 but hey, you keep that PC elitist chip on your shoulder buddy.

In my experience the situation is not at all different from purchasing "complete" games. You just need to know what you want and look into what the game in question offers. But as others have said, there's no date for Valheim's release out of early access.

Early access is a farce.
Just another label as a marketing strategy.
See early access as a finished game with possible future free expansions. If you don't like this concept, don't buy. You should be aware of this fact beforehand.

The question you should ask yourself instead is whether the game is worth the money.
And this game is worth the money. Also a fact.

This game is like "Minecraft" and "World of Warcraft" would have a child together, and when the parents had no time, uncle "ANNO" and "Gothic" took care of the little one.

If you have a big problem with any of the games mentioned, take a closer look before you buy / otherwise, take a few weeks off before you buy.

Feel free to not buy and protest EA methodology.

Its done enough that if they stopped here, it was worth the price I paid for it. I would be upset if they did not finish it, but its that good already.

The game is probably about 50% done, so 2-3 years is my best guess. It has more content than 50%, but it lacks some polish (optimization, bugs, etc) and may have more minor updates like H&H coming (or not?). Add it all up, Bet on it being a while yet.

I'm going to second that Valheim is well worth the price of entry even with the early access label.

Hell, I feel like I've robbed the developers I've got so much entertainment out of this game.

It's the Duke Nukem Forever of Steam. Good news is we can play while we wait and the game is actually very good.

It is a strong example of poor planning from a business perspective though as they squandered the interest generated which was sky high and dropped off a cliff. I don't think they could have managed that aspect of it any worse than they did. They literally lost lightning in a bottle.

Use the search function. People ask this same question every single day and always get the same answers.

The answer being no one knows until it is. The devs are actually bound by steams Early Access participation rule set to not make predictions or estimates.

It will be fully released when the devs are ready.

It's entirely playable now and well worth the $25. Buy it, enjoy it as far as you want to take it. Put it away until the next update happens. You will be waiting a LONG time if you're waiting on a full release to buy it at all.

This game is more complete even than a significant number of titles that are no longer in early access. This game could take a very long time before it's "fully released," but this doesn't meant the same thing it used to.

Making the rounds to all the games on your wishlist. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and complaining about early access ? Pretty sad.

i'm thinking probably 2 years if were going to get 2 more biomes. going by how long it took mistlands to come out isn't a good way to look at it because there was a ton of backend issues and network issues that became apparent that they had to figure out when it went into early access, it wasn't all spent progressing the development like planned.

IMO this is very playable compared to the vast majority of EA titles.

Given that it took them 2 years to get the Mistlands working and that they have at least 2 more biomes to go I'd guess 4 years +. Still far better than the decade+ for 7d2d.
