Do they stop spawning?
I've built my home near the black forest and I keep getting attacked by the blue eyed creatures and I've once seen a red eyed one. Would cutting down the woods make them stop spawning nearby? Another question, if I plant the saplings will I expand the black forest and make black forest enemies spawn more?

Short answer...no they won't stop spawning but there are methods to keep them at bay.
You can plant any tree seed anywhere you want but it won't transform the biome type.

Baddies won't spawn in the area of effect of certain things workbenches for one. I don't have a complete list but the Wiki probably does.
Edit...from what I understand they don't like fires either.

Make sure your whole interior is covered by workbench radius. Use multiple workbenches if needed. That will prevent spawns in your base, but they will continue spawning outside. Just make sure your base is surrounded by walls so they can't see you or any crafting objects inside, as they will agro onto those things.
Biome "zoning" is determined on world generation and isn't influenced by tree planting or anything else.

Honestly, Dig a moat. 8m wide, as far down as you can. surround base. small bridge connecting, with torch on it. They run away from torches, and throw rocks at it. with the ward active the rocks deal negligible damage. then you have to worry about trolls... it will happen eventually. trolls will only hurt the bridge, and cannot get in. problem solved

As a matter of aesthetics, you can bury workbenches under floors or behind walls. Side effect: helps protect them from being destroyed

this is why i'm gonna soon give up on this game because of this lame greys/trolls spawning bs.. its a very cheap decision by the devs to make spawn enemies randomy for a 2021 game. placing workbenches all around is also a lame workaround, there should be another wayt of extending your territory like by placing flags , poles or something else...

because a flag or a pole is different from a workbench or campfire or whatever?
there are lots of ways to deal with them. Loft up, moat down, island, anti-spawn, wolves, ignore them, more.
Yes, they need a tweak, game isn't done yet. My newest project is near ashlands in BF next to swamp and its nonstop enemy. Last time I went to chop wood for the roof, I got, literally 4 to 1 pieces of wood from dwarves vs trees.

Game seems to keep track of what it spawns and has limits- dig a hole, knock mobs into it, do not kill them, and there will be less of that type of mob in that zone.

Pretty sure that these grays were meant to be the souls of criminals, specifically murders and rapist. So, this might be their hell, resurrected time and again, to die at the sword of the just warrior, again.

If only we could do this for deathsquetos. Game seems to keep track of what it spawns and has limits- dig a hole, knock mobs into it, do not kill them, and there will be less of that type of mob in that zone.

Aye it's a bit of a pain now but as has been said it EA before the first big patch so lots of tweaking is yet to come. For example 1 thing I'd love to see in the future would be making it so walls create a barrier of "non spawning", basically make it so if you create a fully enclosed area of wall anything on the inside wall of it is an area enemies won't spawn.
It'd also be cool honestly to have something that counts as a workbench for building as right now I don't find it a massive issue as you need workbenches covering the entire area of your base so you can build and repair inside it.

Think this needs to emphasized. Because there is a workaround that works doesn't mean there isn't and issue. Burying workbenches? Is this the game logic that should be emphasized? It's like saying "America's greatest mistake in early 1941 was a failure bury a machine tools around the port of Pearl Harbor."

Use sharp stakes. That tends to keep the trolls at bay. I noticed this when I knocked mine down to enlarge the base area, and almost immediately had a troll attack. With them up I get the undead usually since I'm swamping to get gear for the Bonemass fight. I've built my home near the black forest and I keep getting attacked by the blue eyed creatures and I've once seen a red eyed one. Would cutting down the woods make them stop spawning nearby? Best practice is to encircle the base with a deep moat, even going so far as to raise up the inner land level to make that moat really deep. Don't worry if the bottom has some water, just don't make it so deep you have to swim because if you fall in and can't jump to climb the wall you are screwd (or you can create a portal specifically to get you out, but that's a waste of resources). Using sharp stakes on the inner ring line your base area, then put up a stake wall (or stone, whatever based on the biome you are in) behind the stakes. Critters tend to fall into the moat for easy farming. Make sure you have workbenches you can use to make repairs easily and to prevent spawns inside.
It's just too bad the game doesn't allow proper tunnelling underground or the absolute best would be a tunnel entrance.
